What are some suggestions for holiday beers?

My fridge is still a little full of left over beers from this football season. I've got some brooklyn oktoberfest, that's ok. Spaten oktoberfest, Sam Adams Winter Lager (very average this year, loved it last year) and then i've got some homebrews that haven't matured enough yet.

I see stuff like st. arnolds, abita, shiner, sierra nevada etc... have their christmas ales and holiday ales out now. How are they?

(oh, and i just brewed a brown ale called Carribou Slobber, its almost done fermenting, and when i measured it, i took a sample. It's already delicious.)

Where did you find this?

I think Matherne's on Bluebonnet. Have you tried it? Is it good?

I can't imagine it being bad, i love all of Sam Smith's beers.

I'll give my normal plug for Anchor's Christmas Ale. Abita's is awful. Saint Arnold is meh. I've got a Shiner Cheer in my fridge to try. Sierra Nevada Celebration is usually very good, but I haven't had it yet this year.

I can hardly drink abita any more. Yeah there amber is ok, but when they venture off from the norms, they get into trouble. I tried their pecan ale, and it was awful. I still have 4 of those in my fridge that i can't get rid of.

Considering the amount of amazing craft breweries there are now, Abita needs to step up their game IMO.

I may pick up anchor christmas ale, vertical horizon, and possible sierra nevada after work? Can i get all of these at calandro's? I know i can get vertical and sierra nevada there, just wondering about anchor steam

Can't go wrong with Anchor Christmas Ale, Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale, and Sweetwater Festive Ale. Had some New Belgium Snow Day last week that was decent too.

Most of Abita's beer is subpar. The only beer they have that I really like is Turbodog.

Calandro's did not have Anchor Merry Christmas or Sierra Nevada Celebration today.

Best bet is Whole Foods for all 3 of those. Matherne's didn't have the Anchor. Marcello's didn't have the Stone Vertical Epic.

Whole Foods has the Stone and the Anchor. I still havent seen sierra's in town yet.

I have not had that Sam Smith one, which is why I was asking.

Speaking of high quality Christmas beers, Sam Smith makes a fantastic one.

They had Celebration when I went last Saturday. It was on the end of the aisle though and I would have missed it if it weren't for the person in line behind me who plopped down a 6 pack.

The yorkshire stingo? They have it everywhere, but it tends to bleed in with the rest of the sam smith's. Marcello's had /has it, matherne's on bbonnet had it as of thursday, and calandro's had it when i was there sat. It's pretty good. Get ready to pay around $11 for it.

Winter Welcome, or do they make another?

Anyone had the St. Bernardus Christmas ale? Almost pulled the trigger on one today.

And, I'm in for the Bulldog. Meeting the wife & kids at Burgersmith around 6:30, so I have to kill time somehow, right?
