Well, at least you would be showing "class" with the Mayo and not bringing in Miracle Whip..

If I have kids, I wouldn't bring them to a restaurant until they were teenagers. I don't believe in bringing kids to restaurants unless it's a once a year special occasion type thing.

On an unrelated sidenote, one of my friends will bring his two year old with him when we go out to eat sometimes. I love his kid, but I had no idea how terrible two year olds can be (screaming, throwing everything on the floor). And of course she doesn't want to eat what you order for her, she wants what you're eating

I have one young daughter and she has been to every imaginable restaurant with me from McDonald's to The French Laundry. I never had or have a problem. You know why? Because she knows how to behave. I wouldn't think of her not coming to dinner with me.

I was one of five kids who ate dinner with my parents every Friday or Saturday night at Jack Sabin's, The Village, Little Italy, Jake Staples, wherever. Five kids and we all knew how to behave because if we didn't we would get our asses beat when we got home.

I remember a couple of times when I was "escorted" out to the car in the restaurant parking lot. I also remember what happened to my azz when my father "escorted" me out there.. Also remember the looks from everyone in the restaurant when being "escorted" back in. That was even worse than the azz whooping..

If you have kids, you have to get this on some level.
Not saying it is right, but I get it.

If the kids are really little (6 and under), I don't see a problem with it.

I wouldn't ever bring food into another establishment that serves food... but I've brought food into a bar that doesn't serve food before.

I used to go French Quarter Daquiris on Essen a good bit for happy hour, and would regularly get a sandwich from Subway beforehand and bring it in with me. But they have no food on the menu, so it's not like I'm taking from their business to do so.

Bringing food from one place into another restaurant... that's a bit much.

I wouldn't do it, but I don't really care if someone else does, especially at a cheap Chinese buffet. The real question is whether the restaurant cares and how do we know they didn't call first and ask? I wouldn't have been eating at the Chinese buffet nor would I have paid that much attention to kids eating Burger King.

I would think this is basically the only time it is acceptable. Little kids, ethnic cuisine, and if it's a buffet it's a low rent place to start with. You can't expect a 3 year old to eat chow mein.

This.

My wife and I dine out for fun. We don't go to movies, we don't go on trips. It's our hobby. We have a 1yr old who seldom gives us any trouble at restaurants. When we went to Opies, she ate potatoes and boudin balls. Same at dempseys. We can usually find her something on the menu to eat.

That being said, I don't believe that having kids is a reason you should not be able to go to restaurants and enjoy yourself as much as those who were smart enough to use birth control (sic). I feel I am entitled to the same experience as other paying customers. My responsibility to them is to make sure my child is behaving correctly. I should be able to do this no matter what the technique. Granted younger kids are easier, I'm sure I'll find out soon enough, but the principle is the same. If I know ahead of time that there is nothing on the menu for my child to eat, I don't see a problem with bringing something for them.If the only thing that allows me to enjoy China Bear is a Kidz Club meal, then I'll wear the crown.

This theory does not include all situations and restaurants. I believe it is on a case by case basis, as I wouldn't ever do it at Commanders or even Applebees (please don't make me go to Applebees), but a Chinese buffet? C'mon.
I think the restaurant would also prefer my 2 adult buffet purchases to none. Even if it means that for 30 minutes, a member of royalty will be taking up a seat in their dining room.

I have three and we have brought them to all types of restaurants since they were little. You have to teach them how to act and behave.

I thought this thread was about bringing food into another restaurant.
I am almost always against this idea.

I wouldn't notice if someone next to me was eating Burger King when I'm at a Chinese restaurant.. Honesty, it wouldn't even occur to me to notice. And if I did notice, I'd think that the parents are being nice by going through so much effort at accomodating their kids and I'd cut them some slack and 2) if the restaurant was okay with it, then it's none of my business.

Actually I didn't bring it into August. I've never been to August.

I brought it to The Pelican Club.

And I bring it because I happen to love this particular kind of wine and they don't have it.

When I eat at Ruth's Chris...I don't bring it because they have it and I gladly pay the $40 a bottle they charge for it.

Too many times I've paid $50+ for a bottle of wine in a restaurant...only to find that I don't like it.

So I stick to what I like and I have no problem paying not only the corkage fee...but I also tip on top of it according to what a similar bottle would have cost me in the restaurant.

Also...August is running a no corkage fee special on top of their coolinary menu...so apparently they would gladly take any business they could get...with or without your own bottle of wine.

I know back in the day when I ran trouble calls for COX and would meet up with co-workers for lunch @ fast food places we would do this.
Lets say I wanted Subway but 2 other buddies wanted BK. Well I'd get my subway and meet them in BK so we could eat lunch together. We never saw anything wrong with it and we were never told anything about it either.

That's not a very good excuse IMO, low rent or not. It's tacky. If your kids are too young, then go where you all can eat

This.

Why would I eat someplace where my family cannot? I hate Piccadilly but eat there because they have food I can buy for my children.
