Florida Tomato Harvest

I have 40 plants of about 8 different varieties and will also buy local if I ever need to but I refuse to buy a tomato from a grocery store especially during off season.

Buy one of these commercially grown that are bright red and put it on your counter and see how long it will last. Weeks. They are like tennis balls.

I fertilized this morning in anticipation of tonight’s rain so I’m thinking right now just how good that first vine ripened Cherokee purple or black krim or brandy wine is going to taste when sliced and put on fresh white Bunny bread with Blue Plate mayonnaise and sea salt and pepper.

And for the first time I can remember I saw a lot of places had San Marzano tomatoes so I planted a few of them for sauce.

I'm close. I can't wait for that first BLT with an honest-to-goodness proper tomato. I've got a pound of Benton's in the freezer just waiting for it.

There really are few things better than a home grown tomato sliced thick, with a little fresh cracked salt and pepper on it, maybe a splash of vinegar

I want a BLT now. Im more of a BLAT fan myself. Avocado goes so nicely on a BLT. But like you alluded to, the tomato is the x-factor of the sandwich.

No wonder the grocery store tomatoes taste like nothing. They pick them while they're green. Artificial ripening does not turn out good.
