Tuna fish and cream of mushroom soup served over toast. Poor folk food. Oddly enough, I'm still poor, just haven't had it in a while.

Sweet rice is what we called it but added milk to it.

I would have said fried bologna and cheese sandwiches, but I made some not too long ago...delicious.

I'm not opposed to eating one, but I just never do. It's not a food, but we also drank tons of Tang growing up

spiced tea made with tang was also a staple. My mom always made up a huge container of the dry mix in the pantry.

no one seems to remember that cookie crisp cereal started with VANILLA WAFER flavor and the mascot was a wizard named Cookie Jarvis

and this was the ORIGINAL King Vitamin..not that creepy pedophlie looking man wearing a crown.

Those crown shapes were hard to eat. the original RIP UP THE ROOF OF YOUR MOUTH CEREAL!

i remember saving box tops and sending off for this bad arse castle!

and this one!

always made me feel super uncomfortable when i'd peel one back and those hard black circles (peppercorns?) would leave holes in the meat.

that was a nope for me unless i was absolutely starving and we were out of everything including bags of sugar.

there was nothing more uncomfortable to me as a kid than holding a slice of bologna with a bunch of small holes in it

if i recall correctly, they were just shoved into the cardboard box; no wrapping or protection whatsoever..you just opened the box and the pie along with pieces of the crust dough would fall out onto the table.

eta and if you could get through one of those, you weren't hungry again for 2 days

Man, I remember going to the grocery store with my maw maw at maybe 5-6 years old and she's let me get Chocolate Soldiers out of the cooler and drink them in the store. Sometimes I'd put 3 empty bottles up on the shelf by the register

Banquet cooking bags. My husband still talks about having their roast beef as a kid.
