The list for 2023 came out recently. A lot of familiar names but some new ones as well.
What restaurants in the Top 50 have you been to and what was the experience like? Apparently I need to travel to Peru...

I’ve only been to Le Bernardin, No. 44, so far.

The only one on this current list I have been to is #18 Steireck in Vienna, Austria. It lived up to its billing. It was fantastic.
I have been to several other restaurants that used to be on this list such as Guy Savoy in Paris (my favorite), Taillevent in Paris back in its heyday when it was #1 and Eleven Madison Park before it went vegan. I guess they have been replaced.
I see that Table by Verjus is on there. I have never been there, but I have been to the Verjus by the Palais Royal in Paris and that was also terrific. I guess that is the same guy.

I may have or have not walked by one or both of the restaurants in New York. I just don’t know.

I find it hard believe that one city in Peru has as many top 50 restaurants as all of North America

I question the rankings but there is nothing better to summon up venom on the internet like making a list. The reason I question it is the highest we have been to is #4 Asador Etxebarri and it has a single Michelin star and IMO is a 1-1.5 Michelin Star restaurant but that is still serious business and some of my favorite meals have been in 1 stars.
They list Asador Etxebarri as being in Atxondo which it is and isn't. Atxondo is a very small town (maybe 1,000) people but the restaurant is in a tiny village called Axpe a few miles from Atxondo. It is a fairly out of the way place to find one of the world's best restaurants. It is a gorgeous area in the northern part of Spain not far from the coast and pretty close to France. The village sits at the base of a mountain and it looked both centuries old and very new because it is so kempt and clean, I honestly don't know which is the truth.
Asador Etxebarri is very laid back for a high-end restaurant and although the service is stellar and the food is excellent. Lots of top-tier places have fresh ingredients but they had incredible ingredients and you could tell it was that next level of fresh, like the veggies at The French Laundry that were picked literally across the street. The beef chop and prawns were world class. I think most people would enjoy it as we thought it was incredible.
Some reasons someone might NOT like it:
It is a destination and far from the typical tourist metropolis
The cheapest you will get out for 2 is over $600 and that is drinking water.
If you hate working a vacation around reservations, they ain't easy to get so you have to be flexible unless you are lucky
If you are or have a vegetarian or vegan in your group, they make no attempt to accommodate them
If you don't like smoke. Everything from the apps to the dessert has some level of smoke in it.
You can't stand prix fixe meal where you are told what you are going to eat
You don't like your steak cut for you
You don't like to sit and eat for 3 hours plus
Highly recommended if it none of the above are issues.
We have also been to 8, 21, 24, 35, 38, and 44. I don't have time tonight to hit any more of them but if anyone is interested I will give our take on any of them.
OP mentioned Peru, my wife is the foodie and we always do one food vacation a year and for the last 5 years Peru has just been edged out as our choice because of other factors besides food. The amount of good food there is apparently amazing.

Going to #6, Maido, in 2 weeks
Considered going to Central, but I wanted more upscaled Nikkei over Peruvian

I've eaten at StreetXO, DiverXO's casual "punk rock" offshoot, its fantastic.
Ate at Septime years ago and it was very good.
Was supposed to at Tantris which is on the 50-100 list AND the Tim Raue Munich location but had to cancel that trip, which sucked.
Interesting the influx of Dubai restaurants

They are not allowed to be on the list anymore since they have been #1 in the past.
They have a separate list for former #1s.
Its a new thing they started a few years ago

Correct. And I have to be honest, I don’t really like that they did that. Although I do understand the reasoning behind it, it’s hard to truly view a place as the World #1 when it doesn’t have to compete against the Osteria Francescana’s of the world.

One of my favorite episodes of Chef's Table. This would be my white whale.

These places would probably all make a great beets and tomato infused quiche.
I'd go out of my way to pass on all but one.

I enjoy trying new foods, but to each their own.

And i totally understand you liking to do that. Just not my thing

I go to Picadilly's on I-55 N all the time. Good dining, good folks.
Not on the list? Bogus crap list, made by know-nothing foodites! Someone likely paid off the judges!
