Do you consider that article to be full of factual information?
Posted on 6/29/16 at 7:22 pm to BugAC
I really don't know or care.
What I observed was people who got emotional about it and felt the need to call it a marketing ploy, which I found hilarious because none of the people who would allegedly be targeted by the marketing would become Jack drinkers as a result. They would be actually turned off by it.
If it IS a marketing strategy, it's one of the dumbest I've seen.

Here's the facts buck. That article is terribly written. It provides zero factual evidence and is backed by nothing more than wishful thinking.
It is 100% a marketing ploy. No one said it was a good marketing ploy. Pandering to anyone is a terrible way for selling goods and services and only really works in politics. The fact that it is JD 150 year anniversary should tell you that. Also, what is the current sentiment of the country? Division. Black lives Matter, social justice, etc... So some idiot at JD thought this might sell more of their shitty whiskey. I don't see that happening.
Now we're there black peoples working at that distillery l. Yes. That picture shows that one of the main distillers may have been black or a former slave. We really don't know. But I don't think that an African slave created the recipe for JD. Many many counts say it was a moonshiner that taught JD the trade, and a guy in the 1820's used the filter through maple wood technique. I highly doubt that sub Sahara Africa made whiskey or even had distilleries. Africa at that time, wasn't industrial. Most of their alcoholic beverages were similar to other ancient fermented beverages. Spontaneously fermented sugary wort via bread, barley, etc.... So it just doesn't add up.
That doesn't say that blacks people were incapable of ever making whiskey. Any human could if they had the know how. I'm just not buying the story especially during today's climate.
Now you, on the other hand, appear to be wanting this thread to go racist. It's not so you are getting upset when someone is stating your lack of intelligent discussion in this thread is prevalent.
It's not a race thing. It's a marketing thing, end of story. A bad one at that.

Also, consider this. JD has been one of the top sellers of whiskey in the us for awhile. I attribute them to being sort of like a bud light. But there market share is being taken away by higher quality bourbons and small distilleries all over the country. So that coupled with everything else just says this is a shitty marketing ploy targeted at a certain demographic that won't buy the stuff anyway.

I agree with everything that you said except for 2 things ...
The argument that it was unlikely a slave knew anything about distilling because of the lack of such activity in Africa is based on the assumption that the slave was born in Africa, which is not a safe assumption because slaves had been here for generations at that point. The slave being African is actually unlikely considering slavery was near it's end. That being said, I agree that while possible, it's unlikely ... despite the flaw in your reasoning.
As for it not being a "race thing" ... ok.
I'm not the one who posts all the racially charged things on the other TD boards.
I'm also not the one who said someone was "either a black or a liberal" as soon as someone else asked for a source when he alleged the story was a fake.
I have no delusions about the sentiments, political opinions, and racial attitudes of a lot of the posters on TigerDroppings. This is America. We all have a right to our opinion. Just be honest about it. Don't piss on my foot and tell me it's raining.

Proving my point. You want someone here to say something racist. It's simply not going to happen. That is why you are so upset over this.

Buck, you just admitted to agreeing with what I was saying. That the facts and history don't make sense with this article and is likely a shitty marketing ploy, why then follow that up that we are all racist for thinking so? That's what stupid people do. Accuse racism when they no argument left. Why go there?

How the HELL did I wind up on the Poli Board?!!!

Posted on 6/29/16 at 8:20 pm to Sid in Lakeshore
Well, the article is nothing more than fabricated bullshite to pander to a certain demographic. Everyone here agrees it's just a shitty marketing ploy, Buck too, but he also thinks we're racist for stating something he agrees with.
Liquor and politics, it's how this country was formed.

Bug, I'm not saying it's you.
You're actually the only one engaging in an intelligent discussion, regardless of whether we agree about the underlying racial tone.
Other posters on this thread did the things I alleged.
After you referred to it as a shitty marketing ploy, he turned around and actually asked what was wrong with it ... so apparently, not everyone is in agreement with us.
Also, I didn't say everyone was racist for thinking so. If you're basis for your opinion isn't based on racism (which I don't think yours is) then I'm not talking about you.
As for others in here ... if the shoe fits ...

BugAC, you should go back and look at the comments on the first page of this thread.

I guess if he thinks it's a good marketing strategy that's his perogative, but that doesn't make him racist. Maybe ask him to explain in deeper dialogue. Maybe he'll clarify his comments maybe he won't. That doesn't make him or the TD board racist as you were implying.
