No doubt you meant well but your OP sort of came out of left field with seemingly no main point. It lost most of us.

It lost you perhaps because you're mentioning Phil's marina, and thats not even the right restaurant. But i agree it was out of left field. Perhaps Guy Roth knows the origin or its creator.

I am not here to set the the record straight, but only to put my 2 cents in. During the fall of 1986, I worked at Russells Marina Grill on Pontchartrain. The year before I worked at Bart's Lighthouse Inn owned by Gary Young, and after Russell's I worked at Deanie's in Bucktown. When I started at Russell's, I was amazed at the onion mumm, which I had never heard of. I understood it was a Russell's creation. My managers at that time were Mr. George and Guy Roth of the Steak Knife family. Some of my co-workers were Vince, Celeste, Buddha, Lorna, and Dawn. There may have been a Crazy Legs fried chicken across the street. The other neighborhood restaurants were Hong Kong, Windjammer, Masson's, Sidmar's, Fitzgeralds, and The Bounty. With all due respect, during the entire 6 months I worked at Russell's in 1986, I never heard of Tim Gannon.
Glad you cleared that up for us.

Is someone out there concerned about who created the onion mum or bloomin' onion? I don't understand what record needs to be straight.

Its a great appetizer. Credit should go where credit is due.

I was not aware there was an issue, not that I particularly care who invented it, though.

so, because you had never heard of it, it didn't exist?
Here i thought Paul Hogan invented it.

You are correct. Phil's is in Slidell.

I was hoping Onion Mumm was a new flavor of sparkling wine

Had one for a late breakfast the other day at Russel's.

Is the "Onion Mum" and "Blooming Onion" the same thing with different names given by different restaurant establishments?
