That's a pretty strong take. I admit I'm a huge fanboy of Founder's, but I think that the barrel aged stuff Founder's is doing is slightly better, and their everyday lineup edges Bell's as well.
I'm not a huge fan of barrel aged beers. Though I've had some damn good 18 year scotch ales.

That being said, that's like choosing between an OT 8.5 and an OT 9. We're very spoiled with amazing beer in this area of the country.
Beer has gotten much better everywhere. I was shocked by how good the beer selection at bars in Mobile, Al was when i moved here. Though i am sick of IPAs. And like most things in the South, they're 5-10 years behind a trend. So now, they're everywhere.

So they've always brewed 312 Urban Wheat in upstate New York?

List is suspect, but Ale Sharpton is easily the best pen name I’ve seen

I will say, they changed the recipe for Crowd Control, more dank and clear now, do not like.
Hate to hear this. I think it's as good as ever.
Also, I really like the Salad Days IPA they recently came out with. It may be my favorite beer by SoPro.

Thrillist has just rendered itself irrelevant.

From what I’ve heard, Jester King makes sours that neckbeards throughout the country trade for.
I don’t like that style, so JK would be nowhere close to my favorite. I’d have to pick either Brash, Copperhead or B52. Whole Foods makes awesome IPAs, but their stouts seem to always be thin tasting. I like my stouts how I like my steaks...tic tic.

The Salad Days I had at Avenue in New Orleans was horrid, and it was tapped minutes before I ordered it; not sure what the issue was there.
And Bayou Teche isn’t close to the best brewery in LA.

When did you have it and was it canned or draft?
Fresh canned is very much NEIPA styled.
I had a pint of it at Blue Oak a couple months back that was like you describe and it didn't even taste like newer CC. I think B Oak either received old keg or had it sitting around for too long. I imagine it was the former and the distributor just had them sitting around.
Crowd Control does not hold up well over 2 months regardless if keg or can

Both cans and keg. I’ll give it a shot again if I find a fresh date.

I get the sense (from here and elsewhere) that a lot of people think Jester King is overrated these days, I’ve only had a few of their beers but everything I’ve tried was pretty great.
