A while back, someone on this board mentioned Parenton's. Finally made it there: what a little gem. Friendly proprietor, great prices, old-school vibe & quality. I had a 11" softshelled crab poboy w/2 smaller sized crabs, it was only $1 more than a chicken fried steak poboy.

Love that spot. I really think the two best purveyors of po boys in the city are Parenton's and Bevi.

Technically anything west of Bonnabel is Metry, until one hits Power then it is Kennah Bruh.

Things get can get confusing. My office is in 70123 and I've seen it labeled New Orleans, Metairie, and even Harahan. I know if the police come they are JP.

I was kidding. Yes it is old Jefferson, although some parts of it still use the term New Orleans.
But Parenton's is in fact west of Bonnabel and therefore in Metry Proper.

It's awesome, did Brenda ask to take your picture for the calender? She was doing that the other day again.
Today was Chicken fried steak day, it and the chicken Parmesan on Wednesday are excellent, as meals or as poboys.

It's south of the train tracks, so I say NO to your Metry. My friends on Claiborne Ct, Hwy Drive, and South agree w/me. They all agree that they don't live in Metry and neither is Parenton's.
I ended up at Parenton's after trying to go to Avery's....there wasn't a legal parking space within 10 blocks of Averys. Forget that. So Parenton's was a very happy second.

Metaire only goes south of Airline for two blocks.
Once you cross the tracks on Central you are in Old Jeffrerson, but close enough.
I just found this place a few months back, and I'm already a regular.
I like that she always remembers what I had the last time I was there. We brought a pregnant girl in our group and Brenda gave her tons of stuff, like a shirt, bib, jams, and some different sides.
People like that, I just like to support. You can tell they do it because they really enjoy what they are doing. Another thing I like is the cleanliness of their oil. Anything fried is always perfectly golden.

She showed me the calendar and said she was going to take our picture, but then things got busy and we had to leave. Going back on Sat w/my better half, who will think the place is a hoot. She "sneaked" me a taster order of onion rings on the sly, saying I had to hide them or her regulars would get mad...says that her thin cut o-rings take up too much time/effort to do when they're busy.
Now it's my life's ambition to make it to the 2016 calendar! Maybe if I wear a funny hat?

She is. I imagine she smokes a carton a day too.

she's great, a retired nurse who bought the place on a whim.
He husband works in the back with two other cooks and she works the front.
They are so good at remembering people.
Another thing I like is you can call and claim things. Like the specials she only has so many of each, but if you call early you can have her keep enough to make yours until you get in to eat.
The Fried Chicken on Tuesday and the Chicken Fried steak on Thursday usually run out around one.
She also has the fattest oysters, she will tell you about how she spends all her money on the food and nothing on advertising (besides two bus bench signs).
Her regulars included Cooper Manning and the late Frank Davis.
Really nice. I wish she had a slightly larger menu, but I'm fine with it.
She always gives out samples if you ask. Like if you are unsure if you will like the roast beef, or the broccoli bites or what have you.
She does run out to the smokers porch a lot,
