TD’s Own Oyster Farm in Ft Morgan Getting Love

A frequent poster and LSU Alum has an oyster farm in Ft Morgan, AL.
In my incredibly biased opinion, they are the best oysters I’ve ever had.
According to national experts, I’m not wrong.

Dr. Chuck Wilson, Dr. John Supan and Eric Bradley are partners in Navy Cove Oysters in Fort Morgan, Alabama. Bradley does day-to-day farm chores but also spearheads the brand’s marketing. Wilson and Supan are marine biologists, both retired from LSU, where for 34 years, Supan was the oyster aquaculture specialist. “My job was to teach people how to grow oysters off bottom and to foster oyster hatcheries,” he says. Wilson was a Professor and Director of Louisiana Sea Grant at LSU and Supan’s boss for a time. “We worked together for years, and we developed a great friendship,” Wilson says.

Bradley came on board as a partner in 2016, where his marketing and social media skills complement Wilson’s and Supan’s oyster experience. “He’s in his 40s, so he’s young, and he’s hip,” Supan says. “He’s doing a great job with our social media.” And Bradely does bring some agricultural background; he’s from a crawfish farming family in Louisiana.

That expertise is a plus, as is Bradley’s storytelling work that’s keeping appetites whetted. But Wilson stresses the key element of success: Their oysters are good. “They’re fat, buttery and salty,” he says. “And sometimes, they’re really salty.” Others agree. Navy Cove had its best sales this year and has 1 million oysters in the water to be harvested in 2023. Diners can currently find them along the Alabama coast and in Birmingham; in Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Columbus and Atlanta, Georgia; Galveston, Texas; and sometimes in Houston too. “We hope to be back in New Orleans soon,” Wilson says. They even sold out recently. “That’s good, but we don’t want to do that too often.” Wilson says. “We want to stay in people’s minds.”

I’ve had Navy Cove oysters a time or three and they are the real deal. Perfect size and great flavor.
It’s great to see some LSU BAWS do well, and show the country the best parts of Louisiana.

Bon Secour fisheries. Call the retail and they will ship UPS. Cheaper than oysters XO.

Are y’all still using Oysters XO?
I always get good service from Bon Secour. I’ll order for opening weekend and more for TG.

Bon Secour retail is your best bet! I’ll be bringing a bunch down for Cow Island Live, the music festival my family puts on. They are petite and medium right now but growing fast.

My dad and I rode over to Ft Morgan from Orange Beach when our family was down in the summer of 21. We did the tour and had a fantastic time with John and Chuck. Picked up some oysters from the local little grocery store there and enjoyed them back at our condo. Id recommend it to anyone that likes oysters, or even folks that are just curious to learn something new. Very interesting work

It was great weather! We worked on the farm most of the week. Trying to get everything set before our minimal Alabama winter sets in. Stop by next time. Once water temperature gets in the low 60s, oysters stop growing but the work doesn’t stop.

I've had them before and they are a great product. Very uniform in shape and taste. Bon Secour is who I have gotten them from.

I had Navy Cove oysters yesterday from Bon Secour.
The good news they are small and easy to open. Great flavor and just the right amount of salt.
The bad news they are small and expensive. $85 for 100 oysters. I could put all 100 oysters in two-one gallon Ziplock bags before shucking them. I ordered them so I had to take them but in addition I got Louisiana oysters from the same place.

Damn, hate to hear they're so small. I've got 6 dozen Navy Coves coming today. Ordered thru Oysters XO and paid out the arse.
