Does anyone have advice on when to add sweet potatoes to the boil? Just with the other potatoes? This will be my first time trying the sweet potatoes in the boil.

Bonus question: What are some other interesting things you add (aside from mushrooms, corn, onions, garlic, potatoes, lemons, pcp, crack)?

They are good but I only did them one time and half of them turned to mush so I cant give you any good info on timing.

Artichoke hearts in a can are good too.

I rarely put any veggies in the boil except garlic and corn these days.

Boil them for about 5 minutes before you add the crawfish and then soak

Those things, like most veggies, soak up a ton of seasoning...compensate or end up with bland crawfish.

I cut them into 1/3 or 1/4 depending on the size of the sweet potato. It's very important to cut them in similar sizes so that they take the same amount of time to cook. I do my potatoes and sausage before I do my seafood. I boil them around 20 minutes or until a knife can slide through a regular potato. Don't let them soak because they will turn to mush. I boil the potatoes and sausage in a laundry bag and then remove and place in an ice chest to stay hot while the seafood is boiling\soaking.They also soak up much more spice than a regular potato. I think they are very good in a boil, I do them every time.

Great. Thanks for the advice, everyone. We'll see how they turn out. I am boiling for several potential non-crawfish eaters, so trying to add as many veggie options as possible.

Tried sweet potatoes for the first time last boil. Added with the other potatoes and cut into slices once it came out. They came out very tasty, a great blend of spicy + sweet.

my dad put cauliflower, sweet potato and extra mushrooms in for me a couple years back, and boy are you right. They sucked up some seasoning! Didn't taste the crawfish so not sure if it affected them.

But the veggies were spicy!

Put a whole chicken in there or leg quarters, eat as is, or in chicken salad the next day.

I added brussel sprouts when I added corn, and they were good. A little crunchy, but got a lot of spice. If you add them with the potatoes they turn to mush.

I boil my potatoes regular and sweet for 15 minutes. Only put half recipe of salt and seasoning. Take them out and place in cooler. Then add rest of salt and seasonings, boil and add crawfish
