support your local brewery or you could lose it
I stopped into my local today and had a very sobering conversation with the owner.

1) NOLA sales are about 35% of his total, now down to almost nothing
2) Mardi Gras pays his bills for the whole year. With no parades and the likelihood that locals leave town that four weeks is now a possible money loser
3) smaller festivals (RenFest, Strawberry, etc) are huge profits with little cost. RenFest for example is now underway without a liquor license because of COVID restrictions. This is likely to be common in the spring.

Places and events where people gather for fun is where the bread gets buttered. Without those, and especially without their tap rooms, these small breweries cannot make the numbers work. What’s worse is that many small breweries were flying high before this, and were investing (read taking on debt) for the future

I don’t know what the answer is but if you care, buy your beer directly from them and do what you can

I haven't been going to breweries since *all this*, but I have been purchasing mostly local beer, when I'm in need of beer. Urban South, Zony Mash, Second Line and NOLA have had some good offerings, lately. Also interested in giving Abita Office Party a try, at some point.

Did I miss a bulletin on Courtyard? Haven't been in a while but they used to make a half-decent low alcohol IPA.

They're open for the time being. CY beer is probably enjoyable if you don't follow their social media accounts.

Great post.

Always buy local craft beer.

Avoid AB at all costs. I used to work with them, its disgusting.

Abita has Jackamo DDH on tap at the tap room.

Absolutely. The only exception for me is Samuel Adams. I’ve just always liked their beers. So what I usually do is a six pack of local craft and a six pack of Sam Adams.

I still think I buy way more local craft than Sam Adams but again I still like their beer.

Plus, one could argue that SA was the forerunner of craft beer

I work with a few breweries around Houston. It’s been awhile but they have all been struggling. Keg sales are where they make the best margins
