So the Highland/Kenilworth area in Baton Rouge has the Mathernes, fitness place, etc right now. Well that little side strip of places in the same lot (Arzi's, old Monjunis, nail shop, etc) has all closed. Everyone moved everything out.

Then I hear from a couple people that word is they are putting a Superior Grill there. Would be interesting if so. Sammys, Superior, Rum house all in one little area would be some nice options.

Anyone hear anything?

Maybe they can just name it "Slightly Above Average" then.

Are they bulldozing the strip mall or something?

Anyway, I'd love it. So close to home, could walk home if I was desperate

I read it as they would be taking over the entirety of the strip mall.

Yea I think they are taking over the entire strip. Or someone is. I saw the nail salon people w a UHaul the day after Arzi's closed and nobody was in the old Monjunis so it's all open at once now.

It is the entire strip that will be gutted and renovated and you are on the correct track. Not finalized yet and might not be but it's being put out as the whole building being one tenant. Superior or something of the sort would probably do pretty well there with ample parking. It would be a good new use for that property.

I don't think so. It is zoned correctly and has had two restaurants in that strip for many, many years. Most would like to see something that they would patronize. Now when Jindal lived down the street he might have had a problem with it.

When Giovanni's was in it I would cut the coupon out of the Thursday Advocate Fun Section for buy one entrée get one free on Tuesdays and that was date night.

I'm what would certainly be called neighborhood people. I go to Mathernes once a day, probably. Only thing I could think of was parking would fill that lot. But other than that I could care less. And quick place for me to get to for a midday lunch or to pick up Ritas

Agree with everything you said. Tell me how late it will be open and that will tell you if the neighbors will bitch. Hell didnt Magnolia Woods people get pretty upity about Sammy's not that long ago?

They bitched about Sammy's because he bought the lot in Magnolia Woods directly behind it and wanted to open it as an entrance. I'm pretty sure that got shot down although I'm not positive.

No neighbors close enough to it with maybe two or three on Kenilworth Parkway and maybe a couple the other direction. I don't see any problems. Not like they are trying to open Fred's there.

Martini, what's being built in front of Trader Joes? That's going to be a really full parking lot-whatever developer bought that old WalMart center has done a great turnaround on that piece of prime space that was going to waste.

ETA-I'd love that to be true, close to my crib and maybe it would unload Sammys parking lot a little in the process. And I miss Cafe Giovanni's calamari.
