Has anyone had this? Just seen it at Rouses for $54.99. Seems kinda steep for some Japanese whiskey.

Edit: sorry for Godzilla

it's not bad stuff... price point would be better at $10 less IMO.

kind of a cross between bourbon and scotch

It is good. It’s changed in recent years. Hibiki used to be labeled as 17 years old and was priced north of $100. They seem to have rebranded and moved it down market relative to where it was before. The Japanese whiskies can be really, really good. When the Japanese get interested in something they tend to do it right.

They are perfectionist. I figured it had to be worth a damn but I'm not about to spend $60 on something I've never heard anyone talk about. Thanks for the input everyone.

it's pretty much scotch
the Japanese studied and copied scotch making methods and like most things they set their minds to they did it right. if you like scotch youlll like suntory

Probably when Beam and Suntory merged in 2014.

eta: My mistake. I didn't realize that it was Suntory that bought Beam.

It's very good and worth the price IMO. A buddy brought me some as a gift a while back and we inadvertently drank it all in one night.

It was age stated at 12 years and was pretty good stuff. They still make a 17 and a 21 I believe. If you look hard enough there are some 12s hiding.
