Every time I think about getting some I start sifting through packages of moldy strawberries and then I get grossed out and don’t buy any. Are they keeping these things too long before putting them out for display? Do they just really have a short shelf life? It seems like a lot just get thrown away.

Strawberries definitely have a short shelf life.
We go buy some directly from the farm and freeze some along the way.

I will buy them from Costco and we go through them pretty quick, so nothing gets wasted.

I use to buy a flat from time to time, but that was WAY too many to eat and I'm not much on freezing them because they mainly become mush once they are defrosted.

But yeah, shelf life is not long.

costco only puts the sell-by date on the cardboard crate so you want to move a couple of the top crates to get to the fresher ones underneath.

having said that, i never get bad strawberries from costco regardless.

Raspberries are the worst.

I soak all my berries in water and baking soda for 15 minutes and store in glass containers to help with shelf life, but raspberries will still start going bad after a few days it seems. Strawberries seem to hold up for at least a week.

Good thing my 4 year old eats them by fistfuls.

And by good thing I mean I'm broke as shite from buying expensive arse raspberries all time.

yes but mainly due to the price they demand. I've never understood how something that grows so plentiful can cost so much. #FruitPoor ain't no joke; it's the real deal.
