Square Root...what's the word on this?

I know it was supposed to open "in the spring", but I haven't heard a thing on it besides them getting their liquor license.
Anyone heard anything as to when its going to open up?

Construction just started on the building earlier this week. Lots of permitting and licensing issues, but I think they have it all figured out now.
I'd imagine its going to be at least 90 days til they are ready to open, but that is just a guess of normal construction times.

Damn that's a lot of delays. But glad they are finally getting it done. I'm really looking forward to it.

Where is this going to be? I am guessing it is associated with Root?

That seems to be the norm with restaurant projects these days. Probably mostly the city being dumbasses with permits, etc.

Magazine in that two story that used to be a furniture shop, right where that split happens. Basically across the street from Lilly's.

Yes, it is their second restaurant. The bottom floor will be a tasting menu only type place. Flat fee, they bring out a bunch of little bites and dishes, no menu, much more molecular gastronomy (although they hate to use that term, apparently). I guess kind of like a mini-El Bulli. The second floor will be an upscale lounge with small plates and cocktails I think.

That is an optimists kind of optimism. I can't wait for it to open. Love the idea of a chef's table place, just keep bringing me food. Non Tony Angelo's.

Probably closer to the Chef's Table at Brooklyn Fare in concept than el bulli.

That makes more sense. I think more people know about El Bulli than Brooklyn Fare which is why I said "mini", but Brooklyn Fare is definitely what they are going for, with the small, personalized set up, etc.
If its anywhere even close to as good as BF supposedly is, I'll be thrilled.

I was just talking in terms of concept.
And Brooklyn Fare is definitely a better comparison, and definitely still way too optimistic.

Who knows might be better. Only about .000003% of New York have probably been able to secure a reservation at CT @ BF. And half of those were probably critics and other food intelligentsia.

Yeah, I've read about the difficult process of getting a reservation there. Its insane, but its purposefully set up that way.

I know, just having fun on a slow arse day. I'm just glad NOLA will have another place pushing the culinary envelope.

We very much need it. Its why I like places like Root so much and why I'm looking forward to SR so much.

I really like Root, but I think the more adventurous and technical things they do will fit in better in a larger format, smaller course concept. The excitement of a lot of the world's best places is having just one or two bites of something and then moving on, never allowing palate fatigue to set in.
Square Root should be pretty awesome all things considered.

I agree, but I rarely get any of the entrees at Root any more. I'm more into the smaller plates/charcuterie, personally.

I agree with this eating philosophy. I am much more likely to try several apps or small plates then order entrees. Most chef's seem to place their more creative dishes in that section of the menu, in my experience.
