Re: discussion in the Chart Room rebranding thread, what are your favorite spots in New Orleans given their unique juke box and what its selections say about the place?

Kingpin and Molly's (on Toulouse) would be in my top 5. They both really match the personalities of the bars and their regular clientele. For Kingpin a focus on classic rock, hillbilly, celtic punk, etc. Molly's has a real heavy metal influence.

What are some of your favorite places to drop some coins and set the soundtrack for the night?

Old Point Bar in Algiers Point. Their selection really fits a lazy Sunday of day drinking while sitting outside next to the levee and chatting with people who drop by or walk by on the way to the ferry.

Don't most places have juke boxes connected to the internet with just about everything you can imagine for a playlist?

Or are you strictly talking old time juke boxes?

Wouldn't have thought a spinoff thread would be your style.

For sure a lot of bars have gone to those more egalitarian juke boxes. Much to the dismay of regulars and bar-goers who subscribe to the idea of bars being able to display a particular identity, often personified by their juke box selection.

Damn both those have been replaced by the internet boxes? Good call on Henry's, they used to have a solid little wall juke box. Selection was limited but inspired.

I remember when that one got switched out a few years ago. Damn shame.

I actually only use the phone to jump ahead of some loser standing in front of the jukebox about to play shitty music. I have excellent taste.
