I have loved Fla. stone crabs at Joe's in both DC and Vegas....anyone had the La version?

Before the BP oil spill, 30% of stone crabs eaten in Florida came from Louisiana. They're finally coming back.
ETA: Yes, I have had them. Not since the spill. The customer who used to bring me some said that he's starting to catch them again.

Caught 6 yesterday in 4 crab traps on the oyster farm in Mobile Bay. I delicious treat with the rest of the boiled crawfish and crabs.

They are always in my crab traps. Average less than a dozen on each run. I’ve always just thrown them back.

Is it legal in Louisiana to take one claw and then throw back?

They tear up my market size oysters if a larger one gets in my bags. I feel justified to take both claws due to them being a predator.

Friend,
We would occasionally catch one while crabbing at Uncle’s Grand Isle camp long ago. It was 1000:1 blue crab to stone crab, but they were present.

we have had great success catching them on matagorda island in TX. They dig into the mud and at low tide you poke down the hole with a stick, if you hit shell its grab and go
one claw only
