Why Did Dreamland BBQ Fail In BR
The owner would rather post on Tigerdroppings.com than own a resturant.

busted ..
that was never one of my skills, Y.A. ..
but in all seriousness .. nowhere near the purpose of the thread .. just wondering aloud why it didn't make it here with the throngs of tiger fans that would come back from all points alabama raving about the place .. that's all ..

that's sort of my point .. i have eaten in tuscaloosa there twice and the ribs were really good .. just couldn't figure out what was wrong with the BR location ... then, wasn't BR the only "franchise" they had ??
Same thing could be said for Corky's when they were here and in Lafayette (although I never ate at that one). The recipe and technique were not the same. The original Corky's, in Memphis (Popalar Avenue, I believe) is 100 x better than this shite hole that recently closed down in Baton Rouge.

I still think Corky's could make it in BR. That was just a terrible, terrible location.

So what happened to Podnahs ?
everytime I pass the place looks empty ?
Not that I really wonder why. Its the worse definition of BBQ in BR.

just remember every LSU fan raving about HAVING to eat at dreamland anytime we went to alabama for anything ...
Well, I've been to the "flagship" in Tuscaloosa.
It was possibly the most overrated, overhyped food I've ever had.

Howard, the GM at Corky's in BR ... lost me when they didn't remove the back of the membrane from their ribs ...
The original one does.
It's the simple things like that, plus the location sucked arse.

It's also the only neighborhood restaurant I've been to where the folks on the block were burning trash in their front yard.
It's a sight you'll never forget!

that's a good parallel .. but i guess you have to wonder, why put the name on the building if the effort and capability to duplicate the original is just not there ?

There's no way they were actually barbequing the ribs there.
The one in metairie was once solid, though. Not so much last time I went there, however.

Even so, it could probably make it with a decent location. I mean shite, Podnuh's was open for years on Essen.

yeah, at one time i liked the one on veterans, that is why i was excited the one in BR had opened up ..

a different location would have prolonged the agony a bit more, cash .. but i just think that thing would have died on a vine eventually .. just my opinion ..

If there is a place in BR that had to be a front for something its Padnuhs.. The food stinks and you never see anyone there but it remains open... hmmmmmm

Dreamland in BR was God awful. The ribs were toug h, the sauce tasted like it was definitely Blue Plate BBQ sauce. The baked beans were nothing but a heated can of pork and beans. I went once and never went back. They had one here in Montgomery. It shut down and the place is now owned by a guy from New Orleans and the restaurant is packed. I think the name of the restaurant is the Big Easy. Dreamland recently opened up in downtown Montgomery. I haven't been yet but I'll give it another shot.
