This style of BBQ might be amazing, but the video below does not look appealing to the eye.

I’m too lazy to watch a 17 minute video

Can you just post some pics?

My in laws are from NC. While that style isn’t my favorite, it’s still good. I don’t like how they call pulled pork “BBQ” like it’s the only BBQ there is though.

Western NC chopped pork BBQ makes a helluva sandwich especially if the restaurant has good sauces to marry with it. Green River BBQ in Saluda NC used to make a sandwich called the Saluda Stuffer which was in half of a loaf of hollowed-out French bread it was magnificent.

I’ve been to the Skylight Inn in Ayden a few times and it is very good. NC style BBQ is not really my cup of tea in general but if you like it then the Skylight Inn is about the best place in the state for it.

Another place to try in the area is Sam Jones BBQ in nearby Greenville. Sam Jones is the grandson of Pete Jones who founded the Skylight Inn.

If you grew up eating beef BBQ then it takes a while to learn to like eastern NC pork Q with the vinegar base sauce. I learned to like it because at business lunches that was a commonly catered item. My wife on the other hand is not a fan and we’ve been in eastern NC over 20 years.

Sam Jones started another place in Winterville, NC (near Greenville) that still has whole hog but he expanded the menu to ribs, chicken and more sides.

Also agree w/ SClibertarian, Scott’s is great BBQ.

Went and tried it last year, and as a Texan, I don't like to brag on "other" bbq.

It's really frickin good.

I prefer chopped pork on a sandwich

It's more labor intensive which is why it is not offered everywhere

U worked at a summer camp in western north carolina many years ago while at LSU...the bbq in the area was delicious but overall the food in the area was tasteless...I use to go eat chinese food just so I could have rice...and bojangles for their spicy chicken...

I have had that before somewhere. The texture is odd but the flavor is on point.

Grew up on chopped pork. That looks amazing and it’s what I think of when somebody says barbecue. I’ve learned to appreciate other styles and regional variations now. But when I’m in North Carolina or Georgia, I want chopped pork. Same as wanting brisket when I’m in Texas.

I always look at Yelp reviews and roll my eyes when somebody bitches about bland brisket at a BBQ joint in Nashville or Birmingham. Or seeing a Kansas City’an or Texan talking trash about Memphis style ribs. I always think “it’s all good and I love it all. The rest of y’all get along and enjoy it appropriately”.

Chopped pork outside the south or brisket in the southeast though? It’s like ordering a Doctor Pepper in Munich to me.

*Ayden, NC*, not *Arden, NC* I live in Arden, NC and I was like "WTF, how have not heard of this place?"

BTW, if you ever in my area (Arden, NC) go to HubbaHubba BBQ in Flat Rock if you want BBQ ( HUBBAHUBBA has awesome atmosphere– nice courtyard, crazy chickens walking around and BBQ– or go get the smoked pork cuban sandwich at Mountain Deli in Hendersonville ( Mountain Deli. Get the Cuban Sandwich!. It is the best Cuban Sandwich in the universe. No shite.

If BBQ is you absolute destination and you need to stay in Asheville, go to Moe's BBQ. Buxton Hall is totally overrated and 12 Bones BBQ is just not good. Like at all.
