That area of town has a good lunch crowd but this doesn't surprise me. I don't think either Shrimp Basket is going to make it in BR. There are better options right down the road.

Not the same business type Sherwood corridor of the mid to late 90’s. In fact, I was amazed by how many of those larger office spaces had for lease signs.

They've built a few new ones recently. Some of those 4 and 5 story buildings on Sherwood are horribly outdated though.

Something else will move into that space.

My daughter loves fried shrimp and I picked her up some from there once. She wasn't impressed and asked for me to get them from somewhere else next time. Usually Willie's or Chimes.

Why do people keep throwing money into that location?

ETA: Nevermind. I was thinking about the restaurant black hole that's the place near Picadilly and the DQ.

Yeah this building is down closer to Coursey and is almost brand new. The Albasha across the street does fine.

Shrimp Basket is a subpar Alabama based fried seafood chain. Not surprising it didn't do well. I think the Perkins location will close too.

Are they ever going to repave Sherwood? frick it’s been a few months and it’s doesn’t seem they plan on fixing it anytime soon.

Walt, the contractor ordered the asphalt from somewhere in Arkansas and they won't let them bring it down here with the current MS River levels. Odd indeed.

I live less than 2 miles from Shrimp Basket in Gulf Shores. I’ve been there twice in 8 years. Both times were for 35 cent oyster nights. Everything else we had was mediocre and I can find at 80% of the other places here. So I know Baton Rouge can do better than Sysco and USA foods. I do enjoy the Steamer which is under the Shrimp Basket umbrella.

Better investment...north BR or Sherwood redevelopment?

Sherwood’s fast fall is prime for a fast commercial revitalization.

Could turn around far quicker than Mid City, with the the right investment.

Sherwood and it's not even close. Anything decent around Sherwood/Coursey can kill it with the lunch crowd and if you can get just a mediocre dinner business you'll do fine. Albasha, Subway, Jay's, etc. have survived almost entirely on lunch for years.

That Albasha on Sherwood is never not busy for lunch. That place is full up everyday for lunch.

The closing has nothing to do with location, the one on Perkins is closing also. It has everything to do with mediocrity, the Sysco truck was parked out front for a week when they opened. I ate there once out of curiosity, they had more employees than customers at peak lunch time. The shrimp were tasteless, obviously frozen crap.

Good riddance, how can anyone expect to serve Sysco seafood in BR when they have so many better options within eyesight? It was close enough to I-12 to draw in sucker travelers, but the Sherwood repaving was likely a factor.
