I've been wondering about this: how many people who used to rely on quick-service restaurants and/or lots of takeout pre-shutdown are going to return to their previous habits? I pose this question as a home cook who doesn't use restaurant food on a subsistence basis--unlike large swathes of our population. Did some of those perpetual takeout-eaters learn to cook during quarantine? Will they keep cooking?

At least in SE LA, we seem over-saturated with restaurants. Many will not survive the summer--but will larger eating patterns have shifted over the next several years? (I welcome a resurgence of home cooking, frankly.)

Anybody that relied on that previously will continue to do so once they get back to their busy schedules. People have obviously been cooking at home more but I would have to believe they've done that only because they've had extra time to do it.

I don’t do take out and I’ve eaten at dine in restaurants as many times this week as I did first week of March. Probably more

No one I’ve talked to who gets a lot of takeout, stopped getting takeout. If anything, takeout will become more prevalent.

This has been my experience as well. Friends who don't like to cook haven't picked it up. They're still getting takeout.

I have been cooking at home more, but I already did that. Went to restaurants a decent amount, but pretty much only for dine-in. I don't do a ton of takeout personally.

Cooking at home is an essential life skill. It’s a cornerstone of culture, and when we outsource making our own food, we lose a whole swath of skills/knowledge.

I hate take out. I either cook at home or dine out. So, I'm very glad to be able to return to dining out as frequently as I was before the shut down.

Millions of people who manage not to die despite never having cooked at home would beg to differ on the "essential" part. It stopped being essential decades ago.

I'm tired of cooking my own surf and turf while popping corks.
