Interesting.

Both Saba, which means "grandfather" in Hebrew, and Safta, which means "grandmother," will offer contemporary Israeli cuisine.

According to a release, Saba will have "wood-fired pita bread baked steps from the table (that) will soak up the flavors of Bulgaria, Yemen, Syria, Morocco, Turkey, Palestine and Greece
Interesting.

I'm really curious as to where it could go Uptown. He's probably going to want a relatively large space.

ETA, I guess I should have read the article.
I know he wants to basically replicate Shaya as an F-you to those who ran him out, but I'm wondering if he shouldn't rethink that and open something at least slightly different for long term considerations.
I'm not even saying that because I think the food idea is bad, it's just more that you may not want to always be known as the f-you restaurant and nothing else. I guess he's gambling on this shutting Shaya down, though.

What's going in at that old instrument shop at the corner of Magazine and Louisiana? Not another Creole Concepts place, I hope.

My dark horse is upstairs at 2138 Magazine at the Jackson intersection. This is above the PJs and art shop. They've been renovating the 2nd floor (main restaurant?) and partial 3rd floor (party/private dining?) of that building this winter. Work this week includes installing a gallery wide enough to cover the sidewalk to street at width of side door entrance (on Jackson), a covered space that would work well for a valet. The inside space on first floor is just enough to serve as a holding area to check in and wait until your table is ready, a la Commanders.
I'm unsure it'll have enough "exposure" off ground level so it may be a longshot, but something more interesting than residential units look to be going up there. It'd give a larger space at less cost per square foot than any other available space on Magazine ground level.

Or that new seafood restaurant at Louisiana and Mag when it fails a few months in.

That'll be Boil Seafood House, a place with a couple of different kinds of ... boiled seafood, including a Vietnamese variety. It's from the Namese people.

I wonder what is going in to the old Kyoto spot on Prytania? That could be a winner for the right concept. But might not be as open and airy as previous looks.

Just saying it will be based around a trendy version of one of those food sub groups.
