If it’s okra it needs red tomato base for me. I love okra gumbo but only red okra gumbos.

I prefer chicken & sausage (yankee); my husband (cajun) prefers seafood.

I find that chicken and sausage is something more people can do properly.

I don’t trust most people to make a quality seafood gumbo (my preference). Also, seafood gumbo is one of the few staple Cajun dishes that I’ll order in a restaurant.

I’ve always looked at seafood gumbo as more of a creole/New Orleans thing and traditional gumbo as more of a Cajun thing

I make a roux base. But I always put tomatoes in.

I like both. Got to have a seafood gumbo on Christmas Eve though. Much cheaper and easier to make chicken and sausage especially without access to fresh seafood. Nashville

My dads seafood gumbo is my favorite gumbo. I need to learn how to cook it from him, mine just ain’t the same. South of I-10
