Schlotzsky's - Why doesn't it work in BR?

Seems like Schlotzsky's cant make it here in BR. One on Jefferson was around for a bit and the one on Essen didn't last very long. Why is that?
Few years ago we lived in Houston for about 5 months while our son was at Texas Children's. Ate at the one near NRG Stadium quite a bit. Turkey Bacon Club on Jalapeno Cheese bread.

The one on Jefferson has been closed for quite a few years now. I also lived in Jefferson Place 20 years ago.

It’s been a Jimmy John’s for the last 8 years.

I have wondered the exact same thing. I think it was bad management. We always make a point to stop at them when we see them while traveling. Dairy Queen had left BR and then came back and does pretty well now. They need to try again!

That DQ is on life support now.
They tried reopening Schlotzkey’s again on Essen a few years ago (with a Cinnabon) and it didn’t last a full year.
I like Schlotzkeys, but it doesn’t seem like it is destined to make it here.

Love me some Schlotzsky's. They need to come back to Baton Rouge.

I used to like blimpies, they even had one in the student union at lsu some years ago.
Im assuming whoever had the schlotzskys franchise just didnt keep it up. I dont know if any of them are open around Louisiana anymore.

They struggle everywhere. Not sure why.
It never crosses my mind to go there.

They reopened one on Essen maybe 6-7 years ago but it only lasted a year or two. It was where Shipley's is now.

They expanded too quickly and brought on undercapitalized franchisees.

Schlotzsky's taught me that I am totally out of step with most others when it comes to fast food. I love their sandwiches and pizzas, and it's one of the few chains that I will visit. Even considered buying stock after my first meal(ticker: BUNZ), but I read the company was in trouble. It filed bankruptcy and wiped out the shareholders.
Boneheads Grilled Fish & Piri-Piri Chicken was another chain I really liked. Closed within several months.
If I like your chain concept, it is doomed.

I like the bread….management and location was an issue

I love Schlotzsky’s, there’s just one left in Memphis and the owners kind of suck.
I’m still pissed about the demise of Quiznos.
There seems to be an inverse relationship in sandwich quality and franchise viability.

I absolutely love Schlotzskys. I am from Beaumont and they have had one for as long as I can remember and it still does really well. Yet, somehow, Baton Rouge can’t support one. The one on Essen can be chocked up to location, IMO. Absolutely horrible to get in and out of. Especially if you are trying at lunch. I think that may have been enough to do it in. Every time I go home I try to get a Schlotzkys turkey original.

There's one in Lafayette on Pinhook. The Johnston St. location closed last year when the owners retired.

There was one on Sherwood Forest ~15 years ago near Piccadilly

Does Schlotzckys work anywhere now.? Back in the day I liked them but then the corporations bought them and dumbed down their product

Right. People blame location and it can be that sometimes. But I can think of 3 off the top of my head that shite down. 3 different cities.
Of course that still could be a location issue. A company that lets franchisees choose location when those people don’t have a clue.
Successful franchises choose the locations.
I also think the product is just not that special.

I lived in Afton Oaks apartments off Sherwood in college. There was a Schlotzky's right up the road. I ate there at least 3 times a week. Havent thought about it in years but I loved it.
