Trying to expand the different types of meat I grill, and was thinking of, for the 4th, trying out some new kinds of sausage I can throw on the grill.

Lately, we've been buying smoked sausage, as well as bacon and cheddar sausage from Tag's in Chalmette.

So, what else should I be trying? Any reccomendations in the New Orleans area for good, fresh, local sausage would be appreciated. Especially looking for some deer sausage, if any could be found this time of year.

Thanks!

Richard's crazy cajun for a basic, but very good, hot sausage
Take a trip up to Murray's Supermarket in St. Amant for a few gems:
Alligator and Green Onion Sausage
Maple and Bacon Sausage

If you make the trip, be sure to grab some of their chicken salad as well.

could always make a boudin/sausage run to Scott... Billys, Best Stop and dons all right there.... All have their own sausage and boudin. While you are there grab some andouille from Best Stop, its good shite.

We got a coonass band from Mamou coming up to play at our 4th blowout. I'm gonna try to talk the squeeze box player in to bringing me up some good sausage and whatnot.

Some other really good sausage that you can find in Walmart is connecuh sausage. Any of that stuff is good. It's smaller sized like breakfast sausage but jam up. And my personal favorite is vine brothers. I've yet to find it In any stores. It's made in Mississippi and you can order it I know of for sure from their website. This stuff is awesome great for gumbo and jambalayas or just to put on the grill.

LINK is their website. Their venison sausage is excellent as well.

Also rabadeauxs( I could be wrong on the spelling) I've ate it several times I know you can find it easily around lake Charles area. I'm unsure on spelling and someone can correct me. ID highly recommend those 3 sausages for any event.

I have been a loyal customer of Vines since the early 90's.I bring 2-3 deer a year there for smoked sausage.Since the owner let his kids take over its different.I got 2 batches of deer sausage that were just "off".I couldnt put my finger on it but I think its lack of smoke. They are adding so many new flavors and I think the quality has fallen off in favor of quantity.Just my .02...I live about 20 minutes from Vines so if it gets back like it was I will be the first to try it.

I like hillshire in gumbo. Pork though not turkey. Also, this stuff is pretty good.

The best sausage in town is Creole Country. It's difficult to find in stores. Sometimes its available at Langenstiens, but they mostly make it for fine restaurants.

If you can get some of the crawfish and greem onion sausage, it will change your faith. The alligator and chaurice are also simply outstanding.

You can get some right from the small factory, located at 512 David St., N.O. - right next to the new Winn Dixie on N Carrollton.

Vaughn Schmitt is the owner. He's a great guy. He'll let you sample all of the sausage.

Connecuh is the only good stuff to come out of Alabama.

I was working in Wyoming and some guys brought it up by the ice chest fulls. It's seriously good sausage. I still prefer vines. I just got turned onto it last year but the flavor was phenomenal. We made a 100 person pot of gumbo and that vines really stood out. My top 3:
1) Vines
2) Rabideauxs
3) Connecuh

yeah...

I'm going to Houston the following weekend and will be stopping at Best Stop on the way home with an ice chest to fill up. So going that way 2 weeks in a row won't happen... but I can't wait till I get over there soon.

Hmm, have you been to their store in Centreville? I am going to Jackson, MS Sat morning and back Sunday, was thinking making a diverson on the way home. Looks like about 45 min from I-55? Or do you just order it online?

Rabideauxs I will try on next trip back from Texas.
