let him know how much I had enjoyed the experience this time around. I still asked for the check and sent my card to pay.
What a fricking joke.

Right? I can't imagine a more obvious attempt to skate out of a bill.

"I'll accept the bill" as if there was some alternative.

So professional yelpers write bad reviews to get free shite?
I wouldn't go that far but those "elite" yelp parties are a fricking joke. The restaurant essentially has a private party for "elite" yelpers only with free food & drinks. In return they get a bunch of good reviews from those same yelpers.
Hey sounds like an idea to add to the Sammich and Nola Smokehouse business plan.

Sounds about like getting on one of these vaunted best of lists that Fake Rob was so proud of.

This is getting kind of lame.

Negative. In fact we are not allowed to review a place after we have a paid event there. If we want to review them, we are required to visit them on a separate occasion and review that visit.
We can review the event as an event, but it does not in any way link to or associate with the establishment's Yelp page.

ETA: Do you mind if I ask how old you are? On one hand, you seem to be pretty intelligent. On the other hand, you come off as being extremely naïve.

Wait, you're really one of these "professional reviewer" people?

The only thing you left out was "Trust me".
You would have made a fine Clinton!

OK. I guess it is possible that restaurant owners pay for free events for "professional yelpers" without any expectation whatsoever of garnering favorable reviews. Seems legit.
Meh, I don't care about all that. I was just analyzing that super subliminal "hey, mind me asking how old you are because....." line.

They expect the events to give them exposure to Yelpers, who are normally the type to talk about food and give recommendations to friends. It is not done with the expectation that they'll get a review on their page out of it because they are made aware from the beginning that that's not allowed.

While I've enjoyed today's banter about Yelp, I'm off to T-Bois. Peace out.

It was the stocking talk.

I can't wait to see the Eater article that comes out of this thread.
