My girlfriend and I used to eat and drink there on Tuesday night for $30-35

Salsa - $6.95 (used to be $2)
Queso - $7.95
Tacos - $3 instead of $2
Beer - $3 instead of $2
No thanks. Im done. Boycott.

Ever heard of inflation?
Posted on 10/3/17 at 7:01 pm to Trout Bandit
Food costs are at a historical low vs. inflation right now from what I was told by a family member that owns over 40 fast food restaurants. Their business model and sourcing could be different though.
Rum House could be cashing in on their popularity, realizing that people are going to eat there regardless.
Rum House could be trying to obtain a more discriminating crowd in their establishment (read less culcha).
Or, it could be inflation.

Well, as an American history teacher and a money board contributor, yes I have.
Inflation hasn't really happened in America this decade.
Ever heard of supply and demand? The demand wasn't as high tonight with the increase in prices. Take this from someone who's gone a dozen or more times.

Thoughtful response, but the culcha was still present tonight.

So you are an American history teacher (assuming high school), post on an anonymous message board about finances, and those are the credentials you want to throw around to show you know a thing or two about inflation?
I took Charles Roussel for micro and macro in 2008. Got a question about inflation? AMA.

formal economics education or not, we can both agree that this country has been closer to deflation than it has been to inflation in the past five years.
I'm kind of into the history of economics...how many people can say that? But I'm also still buzzed from my expensive visit to Rum House, but I thought that was obvious.

Their parking situation is abhorrent

I just had sticker shock at Truck Farm Tavern, way out in the middle of nowhere (St Rose). $15 bacon cheeseburger in a very casual restaurant without tablecloths or any sort of refined service. $14 for a smoked chicken entree salad, $18 for a seared beef tenderloin salad. It's out in the sticks but posting in town prices. Crazy.....

Maybe they realized they could not turn a profit on a $2 taco or beer. Maybe the rent went up. Maybe their insurance went up. Maybe the utilities went up. Maybe just maybe their labor went up in an extremely tight labor market.
Or maybe they don't like cheap arse history teachers.

Is this a special or happy hour?
What beer is now $3?
I never remember tacos being $2

I'm not complaining so much about $3 beer and tacos as I am SEVEN DOLLAR non refillable salsa (which used to be $2).

Those have to be happy hour prices

When they opened in 2009, the salsa was $4.

when did culture start going to rum house?
Posted on 10/4/17 at 8:31 am to bayoubengals88
It's honestly not worth going to outside of happy hour and/or Tuesdays (and $3 isn't much of a special anymore since most are around $4 anyway). The two tacos and two sides plate is like $13 and the three tacos and one side plate is like $15, that's outrageous. Drink prices aren't unreasonable, but the amount they charge for tacos keeps me away.

That's absolutely insane.

Example(s)?
Seems like a dozen of eggs have been $2.75-$3.50 for at least a decade now.
