The seafood gumbos were 50/50. Some were good and the other half were trash

We made 10 gallons and it went so fast it was crazy. We were the crew with the live gator in front of it so I think it drew extra people. We felt bad we didn't do more but that's all we could do with a 10 gallon pot. Got 2nd place in the Cajun Combo category after winning the entire thing last year. We got a lot of compliments but I bet so did everyone. Didn't see anyone throw ours away at least and nobody on here has bashed us yet so that's a WIN as far as I'm concerned. The gator was a huge hit though lol

Wish it hadn’t been directly in the middle of one of LSU basketball’s two biggest home games

I think I counted mid 30s. I was Team Crawfish App. Our was good, not great. We’ve had better in the past but we didn’t put forth nearly the time or effort as we did the last few yrs.

A couple of yrs ago we had arguably the best gumbo I’ve ever had in my life. We went above and beyond with everything. When we didn’t place i just said frick it let’s spend a little less time cooking and more time drinking. It has worked well.

30+ teams? That's it? I was expecting a bigger event...anybody go to the Watson Bird and Sausage Gumbo cook-off a few weeks ago? It was at the Livingston Parish Fairgrounds and had over 70 teams...very good stuff

That's the point I made earlier in the thread...it'd be really hard to judge gumbo based on objective guidelines, the good ones all taste the same...it'd probably be easier to rank the worst ones.

There were some good gumbos there. And some bad ones. There was room for 75 teams, but only 52 registered. 45 turned in gumbo for judging.

Not sure who the winning team was, but I can say their gumbo was the clear winner among the finalists. And that was across 8 judges.

I really enjoyed it. As was said some were great and some were horrible. One was burnt but they were serving it anyway. One tasted like water with chicken and sausage in it. My favorite was a seafood gumbo, wish I could remember who it was but they were over in the small section off the grass. I like a thick roux and none of the thicker roux gumbos had great flavor, IMO.

I think it is hilarious that you were the pirate. You tried to get me to come taste yours but I was busy trying not to puke from all I had eaten. You said I looked like a discerning gentleman or something and I just waved you off. Sorry dude, I was too full!
