Rouses coming to Destin

OK, should I be excited about this?

quote:

Rouses Market and Rouses Liquors will take over 49,993 square feet of space at the Emerald Coast Centre on Emerald Coast Parkway. Park Grimmer, owner of the shopping center, said the market is expected to open in early 2020.

After living in Texas for the past 20 years and enjoying really afforable grocery shopping at Kroger and HEB, we've retired to the land of Publix ... and I'm still in sticker shock.

The proposed new Rouses will be a 23 mile drive for us - worth it? Yay or nay?

If they are building a new store or heavily renovating a store; possibly.

if they are just moving into an old outdated building, pass.

I would venture to say they will make this location really nice.

With that being said, I really hate Rouses because some locations are crappy, some are okay. In the Lafayette area they have decent meat/butcher section because they have a lot of competition. If you venture over to Metairie the locations are downright bad. The produce looks like stuff Whole Foods tosses out and the meat departments are not nearly as nice as other locations I have seen. They are kind of the only game in town in Metairie so they can get away with it. The downtown NOLA location is nice.

No telling what you are gonna get because their quality is all over the board.

I really think Publix gets so much love because they are not local and people associate them with being on vacation. Their prices are high, they don't have the greatest selection, and not very good meat and seafood departments. The stores are extremely clean with great customer service though.

It's worth the 23 mile drive. There's a nice selection of grocery items and the meats and liquor selection are very good. You will enjoy it and I'd definitely go check it out.

I'll take Rouse's grocery selection over Whole Food's or Fresh Market, any day.

This/\.

I shop Rouses, but the store is about 1 mile from my house and I prefer them over Winn-Dixie, which is right across the street from the Rouses.

Now, if it was Costco, I'd venture 23 miles at least once a month when buying things in bulk and at the prices they offer in their stores. Fill up the tank while there and save enough to pay for the membership card.

Let me rephrase. It's not worth the drive, but if any rouses was worth the drive, that would be the one.

This will be a place for baws vacationing in Destin to stock up on ghost.

I used public 2-3/week for 5 years and would straight up switch every Rouses to Publix. It is one of the few things I miss about Atlanta.

The chicken and subs are really good but they really lack in specialty items, ethnic items etc that you normally see in a higher end grocery store. Their seafood departments are pretty pathetic. I live in Savannah and they rarely have any local seafood. Very small selection and mainly imported farm raised stuff.

No sales tax for food in Texas either - and a gallon of milk there is $1.99 or less, compared to almost $4 at my local Publix. Highway robbery, I tell ya!
