Rice with your peas today?

I grew up in a home where rice was cooked every day, and almost every vegetable was served over it. I mean every pea, bean, green and even corn. My wife comes from a very different food background and rice wasn't used this way. She's been in charge of NYD food for the last 20 years. I am doing it today. Seems so strange to be cooking peas and not rice. You?

We never had black eyes w rice.
Wife never didn’t have rice, ever, w everything. Dad was a rice farmer.
I north la we didn’t eat rice as often as potatoes. Gravies were over potatoes about 90 percent of the time.
The last pork in Alex was country style ribs yesterday. I’m fixing to brown and braise em

Back at ya, tf!
I guess my old folks thought that I was going to need the extra ”green” and fed me cabbage as well, 2 ways.

Doing a Black Eye Pea Jambalaya here so yeah, rice!

Black eye peas with rice. Smothered cabbage with smoke sausage, onion, garlic and some of the water from the corned beef I'm also fixing.
Probably going to do some habanero cornbread to go with it and am debating tossing in some cheese for a bit more kick.

Not today, but not opposed to it
Cole slaw (made 2 days ago and sitting in the fridge so it should be real good)
Black yes with smoked sausage
Cabbage smothered with some bacon and onions
Grilled pork tenderloin
Sweet cornbread
Have not decided on dessert yet but maybe brownies, blueberry cobbler, derby pie, or who knows what

Black-eyes, mustard greens and turnip greens mix. Lots of roots. Seasoned with salt pork, tasso, and ham. Big pone of bread. Grilling some thick center cut chops. Kinda simple. No rice.

Pawpaw and Mawmaw literally ate rice for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
My parents didn’t carry the everyday tradition over. But we did eat it a lot.

That is one of my favorite salad dishes. This slice cabbage and dress it and let it sit in the fridge to wilt a bit and suck up all the flavors. HEAVEN

I only use rice when making black eyed pea jambalaya
I prefer cornbread to soak up the juice

Tell her you are making Hopping John, at least for supper if not for lunch.

No rice today, but we did often have rice with blackeyes growing up.
Today we had collards and mustards with smoked turkey wing, blackeyed peas cooked with bacon and a little onion, cabbage stewed with Zing Zang Bloody Mary mix, and corn bread.
