Wife and I booked a 4-night stay in Somers, MT in late June. Any recommendations within a 45-min drive is appreciated. Whitefish is nearby and heard there are a bunch of dining options there.

Loula’s in whitefish had great pies.
Buffalo Cafe in whitefish was good.
Gunsight saloon in Columbia Falls for burgers and such. Went multiple times and the quality of the live music varied widely.
You could drive down to Flathead lake and have dinner on one of the spots on the water. Lake is beautiful.
Eat dinner in the Lake McDonald lodge. Don’t think they take reservations but the line wasn’t bad and the lobby is a good place to wait.
On the far east side of the park Two Sisters had great food.
I’ll probably think of some more in a little while.

Also, I would highly encourage you to take an extra date to drive up into Canada and see the Canadian side of the park. There’s a boat ride on the lake in Canada that is highly worth it.
You can have high tea at the Prince of Wales Lodge, but I didn’t do that so I don’t really know much about that. At least walk into the lobby and look out back.
Just kind of regular places to eat in the little village on the lake in Canada. Food was fine but kinda like burgers and such. You can cross at the Chief Mountain border crossing. They mainly seem to be concerned with if you had any fresh fruit or fruit or wood in your car.
Now I want to go back.

Yes. Very reasonable like 45 minutes from St. Mary’s.
I stayed at the bear lodge in St Mary’s village and it was clean (pricey for what it was though).
Two sisters in St Mary’s was great.
Canadian guard told me you can take bear spray across the border if it says bear spray and you tell them the purpose of your trip is hiking. I left min at the hotel because I read personal pepper spray was illegal in Canada.

Lot of options here.
For dinner in Whitefish, I would go with Whitefish Lake Restaurant at the country club, Latitude 48 or Abruzzo. I’ve been to all three and they are all great. Abruzzo is Italian. Latitude has a cool bar downstairs. Both of those are downtown. The country club restaurant is just west of downtown but pretty close. Since you are going in the summer, I’d try to do reservations for whichever. Lodge at Whitefish Lake is just north of downtown. Really nice deck out back overlooking the lake. Blackstar and Craggy Range downtown for bar food for lunch.
For breakfast, I agree with the other poster on Loula’s and Buffalo Cafe.
For bars, I’m partial to Great Northern. They have great bar food too. Herb & Omni is pretty nice and probably a bit more hip. There is a really great rooftop terrace there too.
Hope this helps. Enjoy your trip.

I had lunch at an average pizza at some place in the little village there on my daytrip from Glacier, but it was a perfectly lovely experience.
It doesn't really seem to be a place to look for memorable culinary experiences (from a food standpoint) on either side of the border in that area, but Belton Lodge in Glacier and Norther Lights Saloon in Polebridge were two other lovely dinner settings with decently enjoyable food.

Polebridge is a bit remote for me though I was at that very same saloon this past July. Got a huckleberry margarita at Home Ranch Bottoms on the way in. That drink is legit.

I've never been up there but we're considering taking the trip in the near future. Actually we're debating between Jackson Hole area and Babb/St.Mary. Is it really worth it?

1) do you live there full time?
2) do houses rent well to tourists year round up there or is it mainly June 1 to the end of September?

If you go to glacier, I would spend a few days on the west side of the park and a few days on the east side of the park. I wouldn’t spend the whole time in St. Mary.
And yeah. I thought glacier and Waterton Lakes, which is the Canadian side was incredible and was more impressive than grand Tetons or Yellowstone.

Not yet, but would like to in a few years.
That’s why I was wondering if they rent fairly well year around or just summer. I realize rental isn’t going to cover the note, but it would be just to make part of it and have it monitored by property management.

Abruzzo
Herb & Omni
Mercantile Steak
Probably do something very casual the last night.

Casual options:
Norms Soda fountain in Kalispell - lunch / huckleberry milkshake & burgers
Syke's in Kalispell - breakfast
Hellroaring Saloon - on Big Mtn or whatever they call it now. weird summer hours but looking for easy hike ride gondola up to top and hike down this spot is right where trail ends
Polebridge - Bear claws - worth the drive up to check out less frequented part of Glacier but can also get their goods at the farmers markets or festivals around town. Also have a saloon up there nextdoor to store that is chill
Lots of good food at farmers markets and whatever festival they will be having when you are there....
enjoy

We have a cabin booked in St. Mary for our entire stay but we're still not 100% certain that's where we want to go. Can anyone compare it to Jackson Hole (if you've been to both)?
Posted on 5/24/25 at 6:55 pm to moontigr
Both are great options.
Jackson Hole gives you the Tetons & Teton National Park and that connects to Yellowstone so endless outdoor opportunities. The town will be crowded but all kinds of good food options.
With Cabin in St Mary’s you will be a bit far from the main towns Whitefish/ Kalispell / Big Fork options food wise but if just going for the Park the East side is rad.
