Mr. Cleary and I are making a two night stop in San Francisco and are looking for some good places to dine, particularly tomorrow night for my birthday. He's a steak guy, but we're feeling adventurous. Staying in the Union Square area.
Bonus: if you had two days in San Francisco , what would you do?
TIA

Go to Alcatraz.
Good lunch spot is Wayfare Tavern, the Tyler Florence restaurant. Pretty damn good fried chicken.

Check out House of Nan King in Chinatown. You won't be disappointed.

If you do Chinese at House of Nanking, consider an off time. The crowd will be thick at normal meal times.
To answer your question, if I was there, Zushi Puzzle on Lombard would remember me. Hell, they probably still remember me. Great sushi joint with an awesome selection of fresh fish from around the world.

There's a breakfast place called Plow in Potrero Hill. If they're still doing $7 Uber rides anywhere in the city, that'd be a cool place to check out in the morning. I enjoyed it.

I ain't forgetting it...and they won't me. My server...a nice guy...told me early in the process that I was "ordering too much"...I was feeding myself, a 17 year old and a 22 year old (Mrs O was mainly eating a prepared dish). I looked at him hard and said this was our one run through the joint and we were going to taste it all. He got on board and we wore the place out over the next few hours. He got a damn good tip on a huge bill. We were all happy.

Just got back two weeks ago. Ate at House of Nan king. Awesome food. Also went to bottegas in Napa valley. We enjoyed that as well.

Taps Social House and Kitchen www.taps1516.com
This is owned by some people from Baton Rouge. We visited a few months ago and the food was really good. If you visit make sure you tell the manager you're tiger fans. He was also from south Louisiana can't really remember exactly where though maybe BR or NOLA.
If you make it to Sausalito make sure you go to Poggio (Italian food) and if Tony is working the bar hangout with him for a little while. Sausalito is just right across the golden gate bridge about 15 minutes from Union Square but its a really cool area.
The palace of fine arts is really cool. Lombard St is cool, there is a back way to go so you don't have to sit in line. I would advise map questing that so you don't sit in line for 1-2hrs. Took us 20 minutes to do the Lombard St. thing. If you have any spare time go south to Big Sur/ Carmel by the Sea/ Pebble Beach the sights up and down Hwy 1 in that area were amazing.
Enjoy the area I wish we had their summers here in BR rather than the heat we have now.
