I've only been for black tie private parties. I'm going for dinner Thursday and was wondering if I am ok with slacks and a nice sports coat, or would a suit be more appropriate.

You will be fine. At this time of the year, you can leave the sport coat at home also and you would not be out of place at all.

Should I expect to spend around $250 for two people?

You can have a very good meal for that price.
If you go easy on the wine, you can probably do it for less than $200.

You can do the 4-course thing for $40 right now...but even if you don't, I don't think you'll be at $250 for two people.

Careful with the wine - if you ask for a glass of the house whatever, it'll be $15. So you might as well get what you want for that price.

That's like a half-meal. There's no fun in that.

Are you sure you don't work for the wine industry in some capacity?

I think we had a couple bottles of Gamba at Emeril's this weekend. Does that sound familiar?

I've seen one of the Gamba Zinfandels on a few menus in town before. I believe it's a Sonoma winery.

Is this on the menu or is it a special you have to ask about?

It'll be right there on the menu.

After some La Crema at Tommy's wine bar. Nothing too spectacular, just tried to kill an hour.

The Sazerac bar was beautiful/comfortable, but that damn drink was brutal. I smelled it every time I put my Makers splash of sprite to my mouth the rest of the weekend. I wonder if they use the cheapest rye whiskey they can find?
