The little wheel hubs are a pain in the arse to install. I used a rubber mallet like they did on the video. If you don't have one get one to save yourself a lot of aggravation.

Haven't watched the install video yet, but I do have a rubber mallet.

BTW, as this is the first pellet grill I'll own, any thoughts on this "special" bundle of them from rec Tec? Never really priced them so is this a good price or not?

I have had the bullseye for a couple months now and I love it. I did not get the pellet bundle. Maybe it’s a good deal but I do fine buying a bag of pellets locally as needed.

Couple notes

- make sure and clean the bowl and vacuum out the ash every 2-3 cooks minimum or more often if you have a messy cook

- put a small handful of pellets in the fire pot for startup. I do this every cook.

- 750 degrees is really fricking hot. Get some long arse tongs.

I do it about after 10

I only did that at first to prime it but never since

I’ve only had mine about a month but I’m loving it so far. I got it to mainly use as a grill for hot and fast cooks since I already had the 590

Well I ended up ordering it and got it in Thursday and tried to assemble it on Friday. Watched the RecTeq video twice and then unboxed the whole thing in my living room. Got everything unpacked and noticed several issues.

First, the temp gauge that was supposed to be mounted in the pit was dangling inside of it as if they had pushed it in too far. I could not get it back unless I would have crimped the base of it.

Second, the spring clip that keeps the lid on the pellet hopper was missing part of it (the little ring) and I found it laying inside the box. When I bent it to get it where it needed to be, the clip would not stay closed at all. Just sort of hug there so the only thing keeping the lid closed was gravity.

Third, the handle for the lid was bent to hell and was never going to line up properly.

Called RecTeq and the guy on the phone was great. Had me take a few photos and sent it to him and he checked about what to do. In the meantime he told me that since these things were superficial I could go ahead and start using it and they'd probably send replacement parts, but that he'd get back with me shortly. He called back about 10 minutes later and told me that I had the choice of replacement parts or having them send out a new unit and I could pack this one back up for them to pick up. As it turned out, when I flipped it over to put the legs on, I found that the bottom of the hopper was all jacked up as well, so I asked for a replacement. At that point I was worried about there being some unseen issue with the auger or fan given the hopper was messed up too. So...I boxed it all back up and am waiting to get the new one next week some time.

Sucked that it came busted up, but what I DID see and feel of it felt solidly built and I'm stoked to use it. And their customer service was great. Got a guy on the phone in Georgia.

Any of you guys have any issues with the unit when you got it? I'm hoping mine either got busted up in shipping (though the box wasn't that badly messed up) or just a one off bad build.

I don't have that particular one but my WiFi never worked, they sent me a new controller along with a video on how to install it.

Yup. Their headquarters is in Augusta. Great group of folks there. Was cool getting to see their entire product line in person last time I was in town.

I’ve had mine since Christmas and I love it. Everything I’ve cooked on it so far has been better than anything I’ve cooked on another grill or pit. I regularly cook steaks, salmon, ribs, veggies, etc. I don’t like a ton of smoke flavor so I find that it’s the perfect balance for me. I love turning it on and it being at the perfect temp in 5-10 minutes.

Well, I need to amend my previous post...

So I was sent out the second grill replacing the first one that was all busted up, and the second one looked like it had been dragged behind the UPS truck. Took a ton of photos and called them this morning. Hadn't even bothered to unpack it, because I saw no way the thing could have survived the level of damage the box took, but the guy on the phone suggested I take it out and see. Sure enough, this one was busted up as well. Once again the bottom of the hopper was dented to hell as well as the bottom half of the housing which contained the power cord. Sent photos of both the destroyed box and the damaged parts and he called me back wanting to send replacement parts. Keep in mind, this wasn't a bent grill plate...this was taking apart the hopper and having to at least unplug the power cord internally.

I balked at doing any of this, explaining that I had been willing to put the grill together obviously, and would have been open to accepting a replacement part for something minor but that I had no interest in an engineering project. He just kept pushing to take the parts and suggested that would be the only alternative. Went off to talk to a manager and he came back and they offered to send out the parts, but this time with the power cord already inserted though the panel but I'd still still to deal with the internals. He kept saying they were trying to avoid sending out another grill since the last two had been damaged in shipping, so I simply asked that they send it via the shipping company they use for their larger grills since UPS seemed to suck so badly. Told him no thanks and that I'd just take a return label for the second grill, and the cover and rubber mat I had ordered but never opened because I couldn't get the grill up and running and I'd buy something else locally. He went off to authorize that and then came back and said they'd take the grill back and send a third replacement. Ugh... So hopefully third times a charm.

Like I told him, I REALLY REALLY want to like the grill and company and I'm not some a-hole that complains about everything they buy. But I do have this strange expectation that when I buy something new, I don't have to fix it before I can use it. Would be like buying a new vehicle only to find out that before I even get it off the lot there's an issue with the transmission, and their solution is to send out a new one and I can crawl under the vehicle and fix it.

Those of you that ordered this...did yours come busted up in shipping at all?

dude it's not Recteq, it's UPS to blame.

Oh, don't misunderstand, I'm not blaming Recteq for a damaged product. I'm slightly blaming them for expecting ME to fix this problem rather than them. I'm simply the customer. I buy the product, and it's their job to make it and hire a shipping company that can get it to me in one piece. If they continually use a shipping company that fails that one job they have, that unfortunately falls on them to remedy. The solution can not be that they can't find a way to get their product to me in one piece, so part of our agreement is that when it arrives damaged I need to fix what's broken. Or at least if that's the deal, they'd need to be up front about that when making the sale.

Know what I mean?

So did anyone else have issues with their grill arriving damaged? I'm asking this because the guy was super hesitant to send out another grill as if they expect them all to show up damaged which I'm not open to. I'm just wanting to know if I'm the outlier.

Got in the THIRD grill yesterday using the shipping company they normally use for their larger grills, and it arrived undamaged! Got it all together and am ready to go.

I've seen some videos on-line where guys are doing their burn-in by rubbing oil on the inside of the kettle surface to season it. The Recteq manual doesn't say anything about doing that. I've obviously seasoned plenty of cast iron pots and grills before, but I've never done that with stainless.

When you guys who own this one did your burn-in, did you oil anything or just do the recommended 400 degrees for an hour and call it a day? If you did oil, what did you use and what parts did you oil, and why?

Thanks.

Oh...and just in case you wanted to see the difference in the boxes...

Second grill sent to replace the first one damaged in shipping:

I got one a few weeks ago, but I’m sending it back. The temperatures are erratic at best and constantly measure 70-100F over the “actual temp” display. I learned this after ruining a brisket in record time. I’ve setup a probe at the grate and tried to calibrate the temps with the offset function, but never got it close. Others on different forums have done much more in depth tests than me to show how off the temps are, so it’s not an isolated problem. After talking to costumer service and trouble shooting it myself, just not worth the headache.

I’ve seen people complain about it running hot, bit that doesn’t really bother me. I bought it to be primarily a grill not a smoker. If/when I smoke I’ll just run it lower

- mine was running at 300F+ when set at 225, and 347F when set to 250. The guy with costumer service said they recommend sticking a drip pan under the grate and that should help some. Hope you have better luck than me.

I’ve had the 590 for about a year that will continue to be my primary smoker. I got the bullseye for the hot snd fast type of cooks. So far everything I’ve done on them has been great
