alright so I think I found the cause of my nonplateau this time.

Eating too much (go figure). My portions were getting too big and snacking too much. So.. to alleviate this and get back to appropriate portions, I'm cooking a shite ton of food right now and am going to portion it all out in tupperware. It'll be convenient, so when I'm hungry I just pop food in the microwave and eat. It's cheap, because the portions are small. 1/2 chicken breast, small portion of veggies, small portion of fruit (like 4 apple slices or 3 orange slices for example). And it's all healthy. Example meal.. 1/2 chicken breast, 6 slices of cucumber, 4 apple slices.. or can of tuna, 4-5 sprouts of broccoli, 3 slices of an orange.. etc. Eat 4 meals a day with these small portions.

Also going to change up my workout routine a bit to include more cardio.. instead of a dedicated cardio day, incorporate cardio in my lifting routing.. example.. bench press, switch to military press w/no rest.. 60 second break, then repeat, do that 3 times. Next exercise, running in place w/10 lb weight in my hands to engage my core.. 90 seconds, 2 times.. 50 second break between sets..

Sounds good to me.

Sounds like a plan. Having stuff ready like that makes a HUGE difference for me.

279.8/241.6/170

Lost 1 lb over the past 2 days. When I was half-assing it, I was snacking way too much between meals Now that I've been doing better for a few days in a row, I find myself snacking far less or not at all. Hooray!!

I mean I'm up 3 pounds from January, but I've started up a pretty good lifting routine. I'm much more toned now. I want to lose 10 more, but will probably just try and do 2 pounds a month or so to finish by years end.

Hope everyone is doing well

In a very simplified manner, it's what people call the state in which your body is burning fat for energy instead of carbs/sugar. it's really the process by which fat is metabolized into sugars for energy.

ketosis is actually hard on your kidneys. Definitely need to drink plenty of water if you plan on being on a keto-inducing diet.

new workout plan day 1.. kicked. my. arse. I was surprised at just how intense it was even though I had breaks. I'm used to doing circuits and not taking breaks. Here's a breakdown of what I did (these are supersets, so the x/x means I did both exercises in 1 set without taking a break, so 15 bench press, 15 bent over rows, rest for 60 seconds, repeat):

Bench press/bent over rows: 3 sets of 15
rest 60 seconds between each set
Military press/BB shrugs: 2 sets of 12
rest 60 seconds between sets
BB bicep curl/Tricep cable pull-downs: 2 sets of 12
Rest 60 seconds between sets
Squats/deadlift: 2 sets of 15
Rest 90 seconds between sets
25 standing calf raises/run in place while holding 10 lb weight for 90 seconds
90 second rest
15 seconds of declined sit-ups x4, rest 15 seconds between each 15 second set

By the last set of deadlifts, I thought I was going to hurl.. recovered.. then again after running in place. I couldn't do the full 90 seconds, got winded. Got about 75 seconds in.

The workout program I'm starting has days 1-5 repeating for weeks 1-4, then a different set of exercises for weeks 4-8, then another for 8-12, then 12-15.. Today's workout was a lot more intense than I expected it to be.. I'm exhausted. I can't wait to get tomorrow's in.

Someone at work is always getting Popeye's. My office is right next to one. Pretty much every single day I have to put up with the delicious aroma of fried chicken.

Second day of no loss. I've still been eating well, maybe just a little more than I had been. Still only about 1500 calories each day.

i'd like to see actual evidence of this as opposed to 'common knowledge'.

exhibit a: when i hit 257 pounds, i ended up doubled-over in pain from a kidney stone..supposedly one of the things that happens as a result of spending long periods of time in ketosis.

i had not done any atkins/ketosis for about 10 years prior to that.

the dr said i had a second stone (which to this day i have still not passed) and advised me to stop drinking any carbonated beverages and teas.

3 years later: i've put my body into a ketogenic state just about every day. i've eaten about 37 whole cows (supposedly red meat/high protein causes you to get more stones)

and, knock on wood, havent had a single problem including the existing one growing or moving into my urinary tract.

sooooo

i think 'ketosis hurts your kidneys' is yet more scare-tactics to convince people atkins is unhealthy and i've seen little evidence to support this myth.

ps also look up 'seizures and a ketogenic diet' sometime and read up on how simply switching diets completely cured this in people. its an eye opener and clearly something must be healthy about this as opposed to the other way around.

ps from wiki:
quote:

The ketogenic diet is a high-fat, adequate-protein, low-carbohydrate diet that in medicine is used primarily to treat difficult-to-control (refractory) epilepsy in children. The diet mimics aspects of starvation by forcing the body to burn fats rather than carbohydrates. Normally, the carbohydrates contained in food are converted into glucose, which is then transported around the body and is particularly important in fuelling brain function. However, if there is very little carbohydrate in the diet, the liver converts fat into fatty acids and ketone bodies. The ketone bodies pass into the brain and replace glucose as an energy source. An elevated level of ketone bodies in the blood, a state known as ketosis, leads to a reduction in the frequency of epileptic seizures.[1]

quote:

The diet is effective in half of the patients who try it, and very effective in one third of patients.[4] In 2008, a randomised controlled trial showed a clear benefit for treating refractory epilepsy in children with the ketogenic diet.[5] A treatment of 6 to 24 months duration frequently results in a = 90% decrease or elimination of seizures.[6]

greater than 90% or elimination of seizures completely in 1/3 to 1/2 of everyone who goes on it. IN OTHER WORDS: changing your diet alone CURES epilesy in almost 50% of children who go on it.

let that sink in a minute.

quote:

There is some evidence that adults with epilepsy may benefit from the diet, and that a less strict regime, such as a modified Atkins diet, is similarly effective.[1] Clinical trials and studies in animal models suggest that ketogenic diets provide neuroprotective and disease-modifying benefits for a number of adult neurodegenerative disorders.[6][7] As of 2008, research in this area is regarded as having provided insufficient positive data to warrant clinical use.[4][8]

"SIMILARY EFFECTIVE"

WTF thanks scientists! clearly we want to discourage adults from eating in a way that has shown nothing but UPSIDE.
