How big of a fluctuation do you guys have with your weight? Last night I weighed 200.6 and this morning I was at 205.4.

I can fluctuate 5 lbs. overnight, but usually in the other direction. Part of it may be your scales. I've been looking at reviews to try to find a good set of digital scales, and have read that some of them vary by up to 5 lbs. when you get off and get right back on. That's ridiculous. Even the ones that are rated as excellent on accuracy and consistency can vary up to 1.5 lbs.

I like my scale. I've tested this out, I get consistent results every time, even if my positioning isn't quite the same.

That's good, but be careful. I've also read that certain scales are designed to give a consistent reading if anything within 5 lbs of the last reading is weighed within a certain time frame. It is a built in mechanism to fool people into thinking their scales are more consistent than they really are. If you are in a different position and get the same exact reading, your scale may be one of these.

Hmm..
I don't think so. It shows when I go up and go down by less than a pound even. So even if this is the case, the time frame is appropriate.

holy crap is that why all the new scales seem to 'remember' my weight over the last 24 hours or so?? i was wondering why they all have this 'feature' these days

i dont think its 5lbs..but the 2 scales I have (yep..i'm ridiculous but i like a 2nd opinion ) 'lock in' my weight if i've lost or gained around 2lbs. again i dont think its 5 but it definitely happens.

myth and i have adopted the 'weigh one leg' appraoch to force it to 'reset'. after weighing a 22lb leg and 'locking' the weight in, if you stand on it again, it will give you a FRESH reading.

eta to put your mind at ease; i have 2 scales from completely different makers..and they rarely provide readings to me that are more than 1/2 lb off. i weigh on both every morning (i was actually going to take the old one back and get a refund since the new one has body fat % & stuff but never did).

so the good news is i dont think this 'fluctuation' is as bad as all that or my 2 scales wouldn't consistently weigh within a 1/2lb of each other.

Yup, I start each morning off weighing my leg to clear the reading from the day before because the reading will only change if it is about 1.5 pounds different than the day before.

So I weigh my leg each morning.

I spoke too soon yesterday, I forgot I had a family party to go to.

I did fine early but as the afternoon wore on my willpower faded.

I could have done much worse because I was still starving when I left, but I had 4 finger sandwiches, a few sun dried tomatoes with cream cheese and french bread, and the big problem chips with spinach dip.

So the scale had no problem moving UP this morning.

I'll try this too just to be sure, but I do vary in weight from day to day anyway. A .X difference every day, then whoosh lose 3-5 pounds.
