No, but it could be.

I know I've missed some selects and one-offs here and there, but I've probably drank every beer in regular rotation in the state.

Tin Roof is improving and should have a third beer out for football season, probably a blonde ale, so look for that in cans. Yes, cans, they decided to go for a canning line instead of bottles.

Their brewmaster claims it is better for the beer than bottles. Apparently, some microbrew in Colorado set off a canning trend among smaller breweries. And Tin Roof is supposedly working with LSU to be able to put the LSU logo on their cans.

I also heard they are working with the Ag Center to develop a variety of purple rice that will make a purple beer - I believe in time for football season. The slogan is supposed to be "purple in, gold out".

Canning does have a lot of advantage over bottles when it comes to cost, light exposure and oxidation. They just have a cheap connotation for the most part.

It's becoming more and more of a trend to can beers in the craft industry.

Why would they need purple rice? Just use purple food coloring if that's what they want, no different than green beer for St. Patrick's day. I can't imagine they would use rice as an adjunct at all, but I could be wrong there.

Yes, I know what you mean. I didn't get all the details, but I'm pretty sure it is rice. It isn't uncommon for rice to be used as a grain in beer, though.

Nah, lots of big brewers use rice, but it's typically frowned upon for craft beers.

Glassman, I'm around from time to time.

No love for Rickenjack's Scotch Ale? Good stuff, if they are still in business.

I haven't tried NOLA

They are still really small. But, they blow Abita out of the water. It isn't even close.

True. I really wish I liked Abita because I drink a lot of beer and I'd like to support a local brewery. But Abita is lacking. The only Abita I ever have in my rotation is Andygator and that is only occasionally.

I am a hophead, so NOLA's Hopitoulas is my favorite beer brewed in LA. I wish NOLA would brew a Belgian style ale.

And can't find it down here yet.

Guess I'll have to head north to Nola to pick some up.

IMO the strawberry abita is way better than convington/heiner brau

The covington strawberry tastes like strawberry ice cream. Way too sweet for me.

I actually went to dorignacs after viewing this thread because I wanted to try nola brown (I've had blonde and it was the shite) but they didn't have anything from Nola brewery.

Beer is meant to be drank from glass, plus it tastes better that way IMHO.

I've tried Abita's Abbey Ale. It is OK, but I was underwhelmed. It is almost good and there are so many better beers out there.

If you don't like a hoppy beers, you will not not like Hopitoulas. Both beers are billed as American IPAs, but Hopitoulas is more representative of the style IMO.
