had problems with dining out.
Sorry for the cheap spinoff from the treble hook thread.

I have only complained one time in the last 10 years. Ralph's on the Park 6 years ago. Made a reservation for a party of 4 at 6:30 on a Saturday night.
Long story short, we were not seated until 7:45. The reason it pissed me off was because after 30 minutes we were told out table was almost ready and then again after 45 minutes.

I talked to the pretend manager one time and he appologized and said he would try and get us a table ASAP. Ended up with a very rushed meal(we had a baby sitter to get back home to) with a very goofy/akward server.

I sent an email to the general manager the next day and got a phone call from him later that day appologizing like crazy. Practically begged my group to come back eat again free of charge.

It worked. We went back and had a great relaxed meal and everything included drinks was comped. And no, we didn't go all white trash and try to drink as much as we could because it was free. Def. earned my respect back.

I've only complained to a manager once. We had a horrible waitress, but I wasn't going to complain or anything, I was planning on just not tipping her, but the manager walked over and asked us how we were doing, I told him that we hadn't seen out waitress since she brought our food, and that was over 30 minutes ago. He comped the meal even though I asked him not to because it wasn't his or the restaurant's fault, but he was pretty insistent.

Never even thought about writing a letter to any restaurant. I'm generally pretty easy to please and understanding.

Ate at an upscale New Orleans and ordered the "Dessert du Jour." Well before I knew what what was happening, the waiter set a slice of red velvet cake in front of me.

I looked at him and said, "Where am I? Baton Rouge?"

After complaining (and getting the meal comped), I wrote a stern letter demanding MOAR. I was given a gift card for several free meals and then decided to bash the place on the Internet.

Anonymously, of course.

I usually write letters after allowing strangers to spend 40% of Valentine's dinners with me.

I can't recall a time I've complained to the management, but I've had pretty good luck with restaurants lately. It would depend on the issue and whether I was going to return to the restaurant, realistically. If I were to write a letter or email, it would be to let the management know about something they might not be aware of that could be corrected more than a bitch session for myself. I would likely specify that I am not looking for nor would I accept a freebie.

I had some issues with the Windsor Court after I stayed there when new management took over. Lots of issues. I sent an email to the manager at the urging of some of the longtime employees there. Manager offered freebies. I thanked him for reading my concerns and declined the offers in return for my hope that by the time of my next stay, the issues would have been resolved. They were.

My work involves a great deal of customer service and I want to know if there's something wrong going on as well as when something right goes on. I appreciate the candor and I can tell a bitch session from a sincere concern. We respond to concerns within hours.

There was a thread a while back on Luke where Nik had a pretty poor experience. Once the manager was brought in, it was clear that he was grateful for the information and he made it right.

I don't think it's wrong for someone to accept a freebie. Some situations warrant that.

Sammy's in St. Francisville once sold me a raw hamburger steak. Like fricked up Gaston raw. I didn't say anything, just kinda ate around the edges a little bit and knocked out my baked potater. The (hot) server upon clearing our table noticed it and apologized. She returned with our checks and my meal was comped. Drinks and all. And I had been knocking them back pretty good. I tipped her $50 and returned to my hotel room. Alone

Yeah, it should be a very rare situation.

With my example, if the manager on duty that night would have at least acted concerned or maybe offered a round of drinks while we were waiting in the bar, I would have been fine.

After getting the free email and great service, I did email the GM back to let him know how great everything was, etc.

I remembered that I didn't eat gumbo I'd ordered somewhere. It was salty and the shrimp were like mush. I didn't say anything. Waiter removed it and when the check came, he simply said he'd taken it off as he noticed I didn't care for it. I thanked him, but upped my tip.

I've complained twice in the past year.

I had a really bad experience at Luke. I had had several bad service issues at Luke so I was at the point of not even bothering to complain since nothing was changing. I posted my experience on here and it got to the manager, who was brought in to revamp many service issues. He emailed me and asked me to call him. The way it was handled from there was nothing short of stellar. He invited me to come back. I said I would...but only unannounced. He was fine with that. If I was going to do a follow up review, I wanted it to be fair...not them on their best behavior because I was returning after a bad experience. On my return visit, everything was amazing from start to finish...both the food and the service. Only after I ate did I tell the manager who I was and I thanked him for a great evening/meal. We gave our credit card to pay for the meal and it was returned with a note thanking me for giving them another try. Class act.

The second time was for Melange, which was single handedly the worst experience I have ever had in a restaurant. I was so upset and embarassed that I couldn't address it while I was there. I did write a letter (via email) to the manager. He emailed me back and acknowledged the issues and even admitted that our server was reprimanded because everyone could see that she was treating people horribly that night. He didn't invite me to come back and didn't try to make good on the fact that I spent over $100 on dinner only to be embarassed and treated rudely. I never went back and never will.

The only place I've ever felt compelled to complain, the owner was rude and told us we don't understand how fresh restaurants work and basically accused us of lying.

The complaint came after the waiter kept us for a full 3 hours (no appetizers.. Just entrees ordered) that night. Every table he had was miserable. He called me a spoiled diva for asking what a dish was like. He was just bad. So. Bad.

I've worked in the service industry for years so I understand kitchen issues, waiter issues, etc.

Mikes on the Avenue. RIP lol.

We went there on a Friday night last year. We had the tuna appetizer that tasted like straight miracle whip. The tuna itself was good but the mayo cream sauce they put on it overwhelmed the dish.
Then we waited and waited and waited. We ordered our entrees at the same time as our appetizer. We watched people that came in after us eat and almost leave. We literally waited 45 mins for our food. By the time the food came, my friend's dish was luke warm. She didn't want to eat it. We asked the manager to just take the dish away. She got offended and gave us attitude. I said we have been waiting for 45 mins and the dish comes out cold? We didn't want them to redo the dish b/c it was getting pretty late then and me and my other friend had finished our dinner by then. lol we were hungry. She basically treated us like we were liars. Then she comes back 5 minutes later with the expo ticket. Then tries to apologize about it. She was going to comp a dessert or something, but at that point we just wanted to get the hell out of there. We just told her to take the dish off. we tipped 20% on how much the entire ticket would have been, and then hit up ali baba's by Pat Os. Love that place by the way. The way the manager handled it was pathetic.
my friend wrote a review or a letter to address the issues, I had no clue she did. They offered a free meal but we never went back.

I don't think it was the waiters fault. He seemed pretty nervous the entire time and knew it was taking too long.
Plus we usually tip 30%

I rarely complain to the restaurant. If its really bad I will write a bad review.

The biggest argument I got in was in PCB Florida when I wanted my money back after I found out I was served Microwaved oysters that were advertised as "over-broiled". I stood out that place yelling "they microwave the oysters!!" I was so pissed off. It was horrible. Then they were from out a can then placed in the shell. They were not shucked in house.


Thrreadgill's in Austin served me raw chicken fried Steak.

Then didn't bring a drink.

Those were two times I called a manager.

Just saying that it's not always the waiters fault and why should he be punished. I guess I should have just addressed how the manager reacted bc you missed that point. That's my fault

I really like those two places. I remember you saying you had a horrible time at Melange. But never really heard the specifics.. I have been there six times now, the last time was just okay. Actually I noticed a drop at all my Frenchmen places. 3 Muses, 13, and Melange. Maybe need to go to Aldolfo's again.

I only went to Luke once, just because I wanted German food.
I hate getting horrible service anywhere. I can't understand why a restaurant chain like "Dick's" can even exist. I tried that place once, where you pay to get bad service. Never again. The tip is for good service. I get it's quasi-mandatory, but so is doing one's job well.

My servers at Melange never stood out to me. I always get good whisky-drink options, and love the Old Fashioned there.
