Louisiana Lagniappe -- 5.0 I'm amazed at all of the blowjobs that this place gets on this board.

Based on your other ratings, I could see why you would say this.

Other than French Market Bistro, what restaurants in BR would you rate 8.0 and higher?

When somebody can't freaking temp a steak, they don't deserve much. Four times and they have proven a track record of FAIL.

You prob need to add a place like Little Village and Ginos to the list both are among the better restaurants in the city.

Lets see they serve fresh seafood, maintain lump crabmeat in their soups (an area many places go the cheap route) and they serve very creative dishes which is very rare in BR while maintaining an affordable price. Some here seem to think that 70 dollars for 2 is expensive and puts them in a fine dining category.. I certainly do not. 35 pp while with tip for fresh seafood is a very good price. But if I were a college student I would probably find that high.

good question. Little Village and Gino's fo sho (as mentioned below). I'm a big fan of Sushi Yama, but I'm sure that's a personal quirk. When it first opened in BR, I'd have put Galatoire's up there. Mansur's can be, but they're not consistent. Flemings, probably.

do we really need to have this pissing match again? I think their food is mediocre. I don't eat there. They obviously fill a niche in BR, although I can't fathom what it is.

Why not Galatoire's now?

Any of those places less than expensive? I'm not sure how much any of these places really cost, but I do know that the visitors won't be looking to break the bank.

Boutin’s Restaurant -- Not been recently enough, but in the past about a 5

Brandt’s Maisonette -- N/A

Digiulio Brothers Italian Cafe -- N/A

Fleur De Lis -- 5 (careful, atmosphere could be a turn off for some, definitely a dive)

French Market Bistro and Catering Company -- 7

Juban’s Restaurant -- 8

Louisiana Lagniappe -- 9

Maison Lacour -- 9 (Great date place)

Mike Anderson’s Seafood -- 5

On The Half Shell -- 4

Opie's Cajun Café -- 7

Ruffino’s -- 9

The Chimes -- 8 (Mostly for atmosphere & the duck & sausage gumbo)

Little Village -- Been meaning to go

Gino's -- 7 (Never been overly impressed overall, but do enjoy the arincini)

Dempsey's -- 8

I would add Mansur's - 8.5

Digiulio Brothers Italian Cafe: Great place. Super crowded on fri and sat nights. Haven't been there in a while though.

Fleur De Lis: Pizza/bar place. I actually like this joint, but a lot of people don't. The pizza is square and definately not New York style.

Juban’s Restaurant: If you're from out of town and looking to go upscale, this is the place IMO.

The Chimes: Good atmosphere, food is good for being a bar. I usually either get Red Beans N Rice or the Shrimp Platter and I go there around 2 or 3 times a month because meetups tend to be there.

I would avoid these places:

Boutin’s Restaurant: Over-rated, but they do dance there.

Mike Anderson’s Seafood: Worst value, most over-rated seafood in town, IMO. Reminds me of tourist traps.

Ruffino’s: Everybody loves this place, so I wouldn't really say to avoid it. I just don't see the big deal about it. Seems generic everytime I go there.

add in Parrain's to the rotation...your family will not be disappointed.

Bistro Byronz is also making a BIG push for being on my regular rotation as well.

Please do not let them go to Boutin's. HORRIBLE excuse for seafood.

Jubans---doesn't wow me (pricey).
Louisiana Lagniappe...pretty damn awesome and a BR favorite (semi-pricey to pricey).
Maison LaCour--great atmosphere and wonderful service (pricey).
Mike Andersons.....meh.
On the Half Shell...decent but pricey for what you get (still in the $20pp range)
Dempsey's for a great causal dine-in location, now with a 2nd location closer to the center of town!
Chimes and Sammy's are both good causal places for them to go and won't hurt the bank.
Gino's/Ruffino's on the pricey side, but probably $25-30pp
Mansur's is good as well, probably 25-30 range too, depending on dishes and alcohol.

Was just about to comment on this

I used to work there and think the food is solid but nothing spectacular. I guess I'm just surprised that a lot of these foodie types hold the place in such high regard

Not to mention if you're a minority they make you sit upstairs

honestly, without getting into ANOTHER NOLA v. BR pissing match, LL is probably one of the best restaurants in the city....say what you want about the quality of restaurants here (actually don't say a word), but this place is pretty decent in terms of good seafood and service. Sure the atmosphere leads a little to be desired because it is always PACKED...but it isn't at all a bad place to spend your money.

I've never understood this type of thinking. You have to order a steak 4 times to figure out they don't cook it like you like it?

Even if you're not going there by choice you could at least order something else
