Pecan Lodge, Dallas (BBQ)

Got the 3 meat plate with ribs, brisket, and pulled pork. Pinto beans on the side. Also got a fried rib.
Best BBQ I've ever eaten. The bark on the brisket was almost better than the meat. As a bonus, I got an end piece that was 90% covered in bark
. The smoke flavor was subtle without being overpowering.
The BBQ ribs were full of flavor, and as tender as any I've had, but not "fall off the bone". A nice crisp skin added to the texture.
The pulled pork was the best I've had. Ever. Moist, succulent, right balance of fat. The Pork sauce they had, a tangy, vinegar based sauce was the perfect blend of sweet and spicy. It was the perfect complement.
The pinto beans were very good, but unremarkable.
Tasted a friend's collard greens. I hate collard greens. I would eat these collard greens every day of the week, they were so good.
On a scale of 1-5 I give it a 7. Until then, Hard 8 BBQ was the best I'd eaten. Hard 8 is not that close to Pecan Lodge.

Nice review. I agree its some of the best BBQ ive ever had.
Went with some guys last year and we were all skeptical with all the reviews and "best ofs", we kept saying there is no way its THIS good. It was THAT good!
The brisket i literally cut with a fork. I dont remember all the details on the sides and other meats we ordered, but i remember them all being good.
Its a notch above Hard 8 for sure. speaking of, Hard 8 is catering our company for lunch today!

Yes, Pecan Lodge is top notch...but their Beef Rib is damn near orgasmic....the best piece of BBQ I have EVER eaten...and I have eaten some damn fine Q across this country.

Hard 8 should not even be in the same conversation as Pecan Lodge.

Hard 8 is like going to Jay's compared to PL.

was in Dallas on Monday evening and I wanted to go to the Pecan Lodge for dinner but was told it had closed for the day by the time I arrived. I ended up going to Lockhart Smoke House instead and it was also very good. Supposedly relatives of Kritz market in Lockhart Texas.
Brisket was really good with some good bark on it, smoked Prime rib was also very good.

1. Didn't you know that posting pics of food was banned until after the election?
2. Was saving my memory for the Adele concert later that night.

And all your FDB cred just went out the window.

Not sure what one has to do with the other, but you aren't the final authority on my "cred" for anything.
Besides, I happen to like chubby sexy girls who can bust your eardrums with their voices.

I wouldn't go to an Adele concert though. Is my FDB cred ruined?

I wanted to like this place, but I had a bad experience a few years back. The smoke flavor on the brisket was so strong, I tasted smoke in everything I ate for the next few days. Everything else I had was good.

I've had some off experiences there as well. People want to just love the place because of it's name and it's a very trendy place for hipsters. That fried rib they do is phenomenal though and the beef rib is outstanding. But i've never had good luck with the brisket and jalapeno sausage, both are always dry when i've gone. Their mac n cheese is a massive bag of meh as well.

Why? Dallas is awesome and deep ellum, where Pecan Lodge is located, is one of the best areas.

Dallas isn't awesome. It's on overgrown, soulless nightmare. The only redeeming quality is Pecan Lodge.
