Parrain’s in Baton Rouge

When I lived in Baton Rouge, this was my favorite restaurant. Used to take dates there. A lot of great memories with friends.
I was in BR with two work colleagues a few months ago and we went for lunch. I likely hadn’t been in ten years or so. It seemed to have gone down. Food, service, and atmosphere.
Do any of you Baton Rouge baws agree and if so, do you know why?

I don't know that I'd ever have considered it date vibes, but I agree it has changed a lot. They got rid of the grill for grilling oysters, which seemed to be a big draw.
As mentioned, they had the best (and one of the only) turtle soup around. Bummer when it was removed. I used to go just for that.
We go from time to time on Sunday for brunch, but only sit in the bar area. Seems to be a lot of large families post-church waiting for a table in the actual restaurant.

I'm interested in this as well
I haven't been in about ten years but was thinking that I want to go before an LSU game or something. I hope it's still worth it

It was better as O’Brien’s Ice House.

Their thin cut catfish is pretty good imo

I absolutely agree. Went a few months ago and do not plan to go back. It is a weird world when Drusilla is better than Parrains.

In the 80s and early 90s Drusilla's was the fricking shite.

I went about a year ago and while previous trips were ok, this last one was really disappointing. Food was very bland. The catfish was tasteless and I’m not sure it was catfish. I always thought dirty rice was a strange side to include on a seafood platter and never thought it was any good. And this last time I went they asked if I wanted the dirty rice. Strange question when it is included in the platter.

I used to wash dishes there. I would go into a zone back there. I’d pay pretty decent money to have an industrial dishwasher like that in my crib. Why the frick do we have to wait an hour or longer for clean dishes? Industrial setup took less than two minutes.

A couple of weeks ago I as in town and went there for the first time in like a decade. It wasn't bad. It scratched the itch for oysters, corn and crab bisque, and crab claws.

“Date vibes” when you are 23-24 are alot different than when you are in your 30s, 40s or older…..

I just get the fried seafood platter and an old fashioned and roll with it.
Of course, I don’t know what it was like 10+ years ago.
