It appears they may be on the demo list for I-10 work.

Been knowing this. They are def. getting demo'd, they were offered space where the existing perkins ramp is.. not sure if they taking them up on that.

Heard they are just gonna tear down the lean to out back. Third graphic in link says that’s a possibility. Always heard that building is on historical registry.

How is widening the interstate there going to help anything without building a new bridge?

Because while a new bridge definitely needs to happen, this project will serve more vehicles, is significantly cheaper, and will be paid 95% with bonds from expected federal grants.

ETA: To the F&DB side of this. Its going to suck for the overpass while they are working on that portion of the project, but hopefully its worth it in the end. Some of the things in the proposal could make the area way better: remove Perkins ramp, extend Greenwood Dr, bike/ped paths almost all the way to Stanford

The biggest reasons for slow downs on Eastbound I-10 coming off the bridge are the sharp turn into the 10/110 merge which forces 18-wheelers to slow down to a crawl, and the fact that one of the two I-10 bound lanes becomes exit only almost immediately, forcing both lanes to merge into one largely before meeting the lanes of southbound 110.

This project would eliminate that merge problem because it would extend that second lane all the way through the 10/12 split, effectively doubling the capacity of the bridge to move cars from Port Allen to I-10 East at the split. It’s not going to appreciably help westbound traffic, but should be a HUGE improvement for eastbound traffic.

Westbound will be better around College with addition of the flyover ramp. No more people trying to cross 4 lanes to get off.

Agreed. Not going to help westbound over the bridge, though. Hopefully, the flyover will reduce the number of accidents at the 10/12 merge.
