Heading to Medford OR next month. I have never been. Wife (no pics) and I are going for the Oregon Wine Experience fundraiser. Has anyone been before to either the event or to Medford, OR? Any recommendations? Info about the event below. Seems fun but I don’t know a lot about Oregon appellations.

Spent a long weekend there. Don’t have any dining recs but crater lake is 2 hours away and we also did tubing/rafting on the rogue river.

Also google Britt fest it’s an arts & music fest with guests though the summer.

Oregon wine? Pinot Noir. Are you going to be in the Williamette Valley?

I figured I would drink my weight in Willamette Pinot. I am less familiar with anything else produced in the state and any solid producers. Any recommendations and thanks for the reply.

Go see crater lake, and I would spend most my nights in Ashland which is a short drive from Medford. It’s a very cool town. Eat at la osteria bricollo in Ashland. The redwoods are a somewhat short drive from Medford as well if you have time to get away in the daytime.

Rainstorm is my favorite right now. Never been to the winery but would love to visit there.

no idea about the wines other than I like them. As others have said you are in one of the most beautiful places in the world though. Bend, newberry and crater lake are easily reachable and unforgettable

Get a tasting reservation at Antica Terra. The most unique and memorable tasting I’ve ever done.

NY Times recently did an interesting deep dive on the winemaker.

You'll be about 4 hours from Willamette wineries, and there are plenty of wineries much closer to you near Medford. We went to Dancin Winery last time and the wine was good, food was better than expected at the restaurant on the property. I know the people at Foris Winery in Cave Junction, great wines, but would not recommend staying out there after dark. One of the sketchiest towns I have ever visited.

The Chards are good if you like them lighter and crisp. Not the heavy body /oaky flavor of Napa. The rose from Pinot Noir grapes is also really solid. Dry and crisp. Not sweet. Ribbon Ridge AVA, IMO, is the best appellation for Pinot. Most of the wine from there rarely makes its way from the west coast. The wineries there are smaller due to geography , but damn good wine.

Eating at the Osteria today. Really excited and the menu looks great. The best wine I had at the first night of the festival was Domaine Serene’s 2017 Pinot. It was exceptional.

I live in ashland and couldn’t recommend it more too.

Woolridge and Red Lily are two great routes. I’m sorry the smoke is so terrible in the valley right now. It’s been perfect all summer and last after years of brutal droughts and fires
