I've got about a case worth of various whiskies that are probably all from the 80s - Chivas, Wild Turkey, Canadian Mist etc.

There's even a James Lockhart painted Jim Beam bottle like this one -

None have been opened (most still have the paper seal over the neck and cap) and have been stored in a cabinet out of the sun. I understand they don't age outside of the barrel, but are these safe to drink?

I've seen conflicting reports on various sites, and figured I'd muddy the waters a little more by asking here.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry for the delay.

Here's the Beam - in my opinion the only really cool thing from the group.

J&B - unopened. Unsure if this is some sort of Christmas design for the bottle or just the box.

Wild Turkey - nothing fancy. It is from Zuppardo's, though.

The Chivas has seen better days. Seal is intact, though.

Canadian Club.

Old Crow.

Upon further inspection, there's a bottle of brandy that's been opened, a Canadian Club with a label that looks like it got wet and a half pint of Johnnie Walker Black with a sip missing.

Why risk it? I'd save them or sell them if they're worth anything. Pretty cool bottle you posted

I agree on the Beam. That's going onto a book shelf in my office.

You're probably right about the rest of it. Just wanted to get some other opinions. I think if they were mine and I knew they'd been out of UV since they were purchased, I'd have no problem with it. I'm only reasonably positive these weren't camped out on a window sill for the last decade and a half.

Post pics of the other bottles. That's cool.

Is that one full? It looks like some is gone.

That's a photo I Googled. The one I have is sealed. I think that the bottle I have is completely opaque. It's got the paper seal over the stopper.

perfectly safe to drink, if like you said stored out of the sun and didn't see any high temps like being put in the attic

also some evaporation is normal with those decanter style bottles but hopefully they were stored in the upright position with no cork contact, post up some pic of them would love to see them

Ah, well if you have the chance to post yours, I would love to see them.

Shouldn't be a problem drinking them if you want as long as they were stored right. I have a few bottles of Angels Envy cask strength I plan to hold onto until my sons are able to drink them. They are from the years of their births, so they will be in the bottle for at least 21 years before we crack them open.

My uncle did the same thing with OFBB bottles with his sons. I got to drink them as well and they were fine and delicious.

If any of them are bourbon, they could have a good bit of value

Thanks for all the advice.

There's nothing of real value, I don't think. Old Crow, Chivas, I think some J&B scotch. A Dewar's maybe.

It's just cool they're all old and still have paper seals. You don't see that much anymore.

I'll definitely post some pics later this evening.

Should be perfectly fine to drink, especially still sealed.

Few weeks ago I found an unopened bottle of CC in the back of my liquor cabinet. The paper seal was dated 1987. It tasted fine and brought back memories of Tiger Stadium

People will buy that Turkey. Probably stayed in the box, so UV wouldn't really be a problem. Depending on year you might be able to get a couple hundred for it.

I'll take the turkey. Looks like it's from the 90s. Not sure what fair market value is.

I'll buy the Canadian Club off of you if you are willing to sell.
