I'd like to try it. I like whiskey, but for some reason I am not into anything fruity with it.

Would try that if I saw it on a drink menu somewhere for sure.
Don't make many of those complicated cocktails at home though

I agree i norm drink crown and cokes but when the sin Smash is made right you can't beat it plus it's basically straight whiskey

I've never had that recipe before.
This is usually how it's made from the places I have had them.
1 sugar cube
2-3 dashes Angostura bitters
2 orange slices
3 ounces bourbon whiskey
Maraschino cherry for garnish
Orange slices are muddled.

I'm not a fan of bitters, if you like bitters go with a traditional old fashioned recipe like you posted, but this drink is enjoyable if you like old fashioned's or if you like whiskey but don't care for bitters

Not sure I like this idea. Vanilla is too damn strong for a cocktail. IMO
Otherwise, it sounds good.

Actually my answer is I work in the restaurant industry so I added the coke part to sound fancier lol.

4 fresh blackberries
1 1/2 ounces fresh sweet and sour mix
1/4 ounce Sonoma Vanilla-infused simple syrup
1/2 ounce Briotett crème de cassis
1 1/2 ounce Gentleman Jack Tennessee Whiskey
Muddle the blackberries with the sweet and sour. Add simple syrup, crème de cassis, and whiskey. Shake with ice until chilled, strain over cracked ice in an old-fashioned glass, and serve garnished with a mint sprig.

Why not just drench your whiskey in some Sunkist or orange Fanta?

Had one at a place here in a Bham that used apple bitters maybe? Anyway, it was delicious.
