Secret Thai Restaurant on Judge Perez is fantastic. Relatively new but amazing stuff.

Budsi's popup at Pals is really good too.

what? They are pretty good. We go often.
Good to know. I'm always craving Thai on Sundays and Ocha is closed. I'll have to check it out.

Yes it is. Was there a few weeks ago. That pork shoulder she does is great.

I’ve been eating at the Chauvins’ places since they operated Bangkok Cuisine next to Rock N’ Bowl on Carrollton back in the 90s. They were actually the first Thai I ever had. Loved BK and and I loved LA Thai. I’m really excited about this place - I just hope they keep Mama’s hot and sour soup on the menu.

Mama Thai is owned by Merlin (original La Thai on Metairie Rd., and now Dick & Jenny's owner) and Diana Chauvin's (La Thai on Prytania owner) mother. "Mama" used to own Bankock Cuisine on N. Carrollton before Katrina hit.

So glad to hear they are finally going to put a legit restaurant in that location. The previous iterations all seemed like tax evasion schemes.

Holy shite they will need to change the name of an item on this part of the menu

Got takeout from there Friday. Drunken Noodles and a special with eggplant and crawfish. All good but Jesus was it spicy. I like spicy food but this was a bit much. Next time I will ask them to dial it down.

Have eaten here. It’s the same menu as La Thai and it’s great. If you were a fan of La Thai, you will enjoy this. We used to go to Metairie Rd la thai frequently. Going uptown was a pain during the week, so we didn’t go as much when it moved from Metairie Rd. Now that it is closer, it will be a regular for takeout and dine-in. We really needed more Asian options by the lake, so I am really happy to have this near by and that a real concert took over that location.

yep, it's pretty much the same menu as LA Thai but they've gotten rid of a few options, such as the crab 3-way

I have no clue what you're talking about

Ah ok.. I never noticed it on the menu and I am not expounding on my comment.

Every time I see this thread I think Not Ya Mamas on 190 is so different from Thai...?

That's gotta be one of the more snakebit locations in the metro area. How many restaurants have been in that space?
It could go either way. Lasts or shuts down soon. The owner of that property passed away about two weeks ago so it depends what the children(adults)do with the property.

Latest info stolen from Eater
Mama Thai opened two weeks ago at 200 Metairie-Hammond Highway in the space most recently home to Smoke House Grill (also known as Carmine’s pre-Veterans Blvd. location), which closed last May after a year. The menu has starters like spring rolls and shrimp shu mai, as well as moo dat diow (marinated pork jerky), traditional Thai soups, and an array of rice and noodle options like pad thai, pad see ew, and mee krob, a tamarind-sour crispy noodle dish.
[UPDATED]: “Mama” is Pannee Varnishung, who after coming to New Orleans in the 70s, opened Mai Tai on the West Bank, considered to be the first Thai restaurant in the area. The family also operated Bangkok Cuisine in Mid City for more than 25 years until Hurricane Katrina forced its closure in 2005.

I think you meant stolen by Eater. You would think they would occasionally give TD a shout in their reporting instead of just taking the info from here and publishing.

That was a jab. I can count 5 things I posted and The Advocate magically had an article afterwards. Moe's was the last one.
Eater lurks here for sure too.
