I don't see how they'll recreate that run down atmosphere in a new building without Disney's help.

They won't. But, Tulane Avenue is really coming along. Get that construction done.

I don't have a doubt that they will. Go to Treo and have some great cocktails and really great food at Tana inside.

I wonder if that bartender with the paddle thumb for regulating the pour of drinks is still around. Or was that Pat O's?

I haven't been to Nick's since the mid-80's. I have no clue.

Probably the same for me.

A couple of memories -

You could go in there and make up a drink name and they wouldn't blink an eye. Usually what you got turned out to be blue, though. I usually got the Atom Bomb, which of course, was blue.

I remember someone on the CB (radio) way back when asking where could be found the strongest drinks in town, and turning them on to Nick's.

Toward the end of its run (early 2000's) I remember $1 Dixie and $1.50 Shiner Bock all the time. I also remember a friend of a friend seeing the condition of the building and saying "There is NO way I'm going in there!"

Also, no way they can re-create that coke room with the slanted floors in back.

Last time I went, two friends were held up at gunpoint before entering. They didn't even report the crime and we stayed out past sunrise.

I completed Suicide Row.

Nothing like a good old 1-800-frickmeup.

This triggered a memory for me. In 1977, a buddy and I were cruising through Houston, we got on the CB and asked where the Houston "Mini Dome" was located.

We told them we understood the the sunrise in Houston was about 10 minutes later, now that it was in the shadow of the Superdome.

You have never heard the CB radio explode like it did that day.

Can't wait to get a 1-800-frick me up and grab a handful of condoms out the fish bowl. Ah, the good old days.
