The Cub has the best steak in Shreveport and awesome Au'gratin potatoes
The steak is good, but to call it the best steak is false. Go to The Village for the best steak in Shreveport. Hell, Cush's has a very good Filet. The au'gratin potatoes at the Cub are money though.

I've had both and the Cub is far better, IMO. You, however, can continue going into a restaurant where you cannot see anything and enjoy.
I'll give you a nod on Cush's though...for grocery cut quality (and they have other good items besides steaks). Me thinks, however, The Village and Cush's have the same steaks...

I've been told the 4 Winds-I think that's the name-is great. It's the Oriental restaurant inside the Horseshoe.
It is damn good Asian food. Great place to go with a group of people and order different dishes to share. The calamari is excellent and so are the prawns.

I haven't been in a while, but the last time I got a steak at The Cub it was good...but I felt like it wasn't anything better than something at The Outback.

The worst steak (for price) in shreveport is superior steak house.
The cub is great.
Texas Steak house in Bossier is excellent.
The casinos are very good, surprisingly. (boom town is fantastic)

I have heard this. Need to check it out if I ever go back.

I hate to argue against the Village for anything, but in a steak comparison with The Cub, I'll take The Cub fillet every time. The Village is awesome, but steak isn't their specialty - I go and get a bunch of appetizers and drink wine. And of course get a Snow Bear or Golden Cadillac for desert.
This is completely subjective, I have friends that feel differently, but lately The Cub has been on its game.
This point is moot because the OP asked for a place to take out-of-towners, and without a doubt The Village gets my vote for that.

Jack Binions is bomb... especially if he's paying for it!

Agree to an extent: there is a lot on that menu that you can't find elsewhere. Plus the ambiance comes at a price.

such as?
and the atmosphere is more of "place to be seen", which isn't my thing

Oysters Bienville, Quail & Grits, bone-in filet...
But yeah, it is a place-to-be-seen. The bar works well for that, which is why I usually eat elsewhere and come for a drink or two.

I went to Columbia Cafe. It was good, but probably not a place I'll be returning any time soon.
I'm working in Shreveport for the summer, so I'm trying to hit all of the places everyone mentions.

I lived in Shreveport from 2001-2005 and I always thought the Copelands there was much better than BR (lived there 1991-2001). The Superior grill is better, too. I miss the Cub a lot. Olive street was great. Everyone raved over Mabry house, but I don't actually remember going there.
I thought I would be more help when I started writing this. Oh well.

Agree with no good "cajun" in S'port. I think Michael Brady at Wine Country Bistro is doing some really good food. Other "nice" restaurants to consider are Mabry House, they do really nice seafood with a Louisiana inflection and Village Grill. Also on Line avenue are Bella Fresca and 6301 Line(good duck confit) as well. Ernests would be in the mix too. For Italian, try L'Italiano in Bossier or Giuseppi's on Line Ave. If I had to narrow down to one or two I'd go with the chef's table at Mabry House or Wine Country Bistro

I find that north louisiana in general doesn't really "do" the whole cajun/creole thing like we do in Acadiana.
I guess it would be obvious but it's a marked difference once you get past Alexandria.

Thanks for all the input. I'm hoping for Bella Fresca or Olive St. Bistro, but we'll see. I'd also like to go to Bistro 6301 (I've never been, but it looks like a pretty cool place).

Gator's on Benton road in bossier is worth it. casual. get the marinated crab claws as an app.

Re: Village...too expensive.
Re: Superior...crappy but used to be hoppin' as a singles place.
I've lived up here for 40 years as an uprooted Cajun. I've learned to adapt. The Italian food and Mexican food here is great. I cook great cajun food at home.

The only places we could think of were Ernest's, Ralph & Kacoo's, and Copeland's. The latter two are chains, and I haven't been to Ralph & Kacoo's in so long, I don't even know that it's good any more.
For Cajun food Ernest would be your best bet. I would hit up Texas Street Tavern or Superior Steak house for steak (IMO Texas Street Tavern is better)...Italian I would go to L'Italino's, though this might not be the best for a business meal.

Yep, it's in the shopping center with Kmart and Albertsons. Excellent dinners. Never tried them for lunch. Not sure they serve lunch.
