First off, if you search or google you'll find a few nice long threads on this topic that may help.

Secondly, we need price range, area of town, type of food, etc.

I'll start with saying that I recently went to Scarpetta and it was fantastic. You'll want reservations. In fact, you'll want reservations to pretty much any decent restaurant.

For pizza, go with Artichoke.

I'll start there and if you can narrow down a bit (or say you're willing to go wherever and pay whatever) then I can keep going.

Gramercy Tavern is a great one. Public as well.

Eataly.. 5th Avenue at 23rd is Mario Batali and Lidia Bastianich's multi functional Italian food mecca. There are various areas that serve amazing cheese, chacuterie, wine, pizza, pasta, seafood, meats, breads and groceries.. and there's a separate dessert area with espresso. It can be overwhelming but it's great on Friday afternoon and on Saturday.

What part of town will you be in?

My two favorites from a trip in early November.

Keen's Steakhouse for the mutton chop:

If taking a lady out, the Bar Centrale at 324 W 46th is a cool hole in the wall place, call for reservations.

Murray's Bagels for a quick bagel. Well mostly cream cheese But so damn good.

Buddakan was probably one of my top 5 meals ever. That's only if you're ok with loud dark atmosphere. I loved it. Edamame Dumplings and don't skip dessert!!

Ippudo for Ramen!Another amazing atmosphere. Opens at 5 for dinner. I suggest getting there at 445ish to wait in line and get in first. Unless you're ok with going later and waiting.

Mercer Kitchen

Spitzers Corner for craft beer, drinks, and pretty good food

Beer Culture and Pony Bar for craft beer.

Big Gay Ice Cream
Doughnut Plant
And I can probably come up with more depending on other info from you

Here is a thread from the OT last week with some suggestions. I'm too lazy to retype/copy/paste mine.

Cafe SFA is the cafe at Sak's Fifth Avenue. There's a great view of Rockefeller Plaza and Fifth Avenue from the restaurant. Request a seat by the window. They have a nice selection of really good soups that'll warm you up and you'll be in Christmas central..
